1989 BJ70 Rear Brake Backing Plate Removal

I need to replace the rear brake backing plates on my 1989 BJ70. Do I need to open the rear diff housing to remove a clip on the axles, or do the axles just slide out once the 4 bolts holding the backing plate to the axle housing are removed?

Yes, the axle shafts need to come out.

Drain diff, diff cover off, center pin out, pull pin and block, push axles in, remove c-clips, pull axles back and out...
