1988 FJ62 SOA build I want to make sure I am doing this right (1 Viewer)

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice, I really appreciate it. I got the front end put together last night and it looks pretty good. A whole lot of finish work is still needed but I decided to move to the rear at this point and get it up to par with the front.

Got the rear end stripped down and I need some help at what I am looking at here and some advice. The E brake was not hooked up. The cable was tied up under the car. I would like to get that working again if possible.

I am not familiar with the 62 rear axle. Are the ends all stock?

The brakes are small! Possible upgrades? it looks like there are two different brake brackets on the back side?

Any and all thoughts, advice or whatever is welcomed.

What tire/wheels are you running.

That looks like an 80 series hub and custom rear shafts.

It is a Diamond axle housing. I have never seen anything like this. It seems to have the spindle and hub assembly of a front axle. I guess I will reach out to Axle housing to find out if they used OEM parts on it or something else. Just another adventure.

that looks like a 40/60/mini disc brake spindle with an IFS front hub. But you should ask FROR who actually built it to confirm.

I am as slow as tar in January but I am making progress. I pretty much have everything on the suspension done, just need to tie up a few loose ends and connect a few more things. I think it turned out pretty good.

I am now putting the Ford shock towers on and will need to look for shocks. Has anyone out there done a SOA on a 60 and put the Ford shock towers on? If so, could you share with me what shocks you used? It would help to have a place to start as I do the measurements etc.. and try to find the right one.

Thanks all!

That is one tall truck.
Measure for your shock travel front and rear yourself. Then call a shock specialist like Accutune, Down South Motorsport, Filthy Motorsport, etc. and talk to them about your setup and have them build you a custom setup. It will absolutely be worth it.

Thanks Cruisermatt. Yes, it is tall. I need to get everything buttoned up and then do some experimenting with how much weight I plan to put on the front and rear (which could be substantial) and see where it ends up. I do have the option to easily lower it about an inch or so and still be ok so we will see.

If anyone has some measurements, say from top of wheel to fender or from ground to chassis etc.. who has done a spring over with 37's that would be great.

Search around and you'll find SOA measurements. Doesn't look crazy tall to me.

How do you like doing suspension work on the 4 post lift?

Yeah, I think it will settle down pretty good and be OK.

It is doable working on a 4 post lift but it can get a little sketchy sometimes. I wanted the two post but my concrete wasn't thick enough. It works great for everything else!

That is tall. I did an SOA but on 35” rubber.

I’m running 63” Chevy 3/4 tons springs out back, and brand new 60 series springs (From Man-a-Fre) in front. I also stretched my wheelbase a little.

I’ve currently got the front end pulled apart, but can try and get you measurements from floor to wheel well this weekend, if the rain lets up for me to finish my project.
