Shamefully for the last two years my air intake hose was cracked, and i have just been using duct tape to keep in together. Finally i got a new hose to replace it and to my "surprise" it is running significantly better. The problem however is that now i get an extremely high idle when starting it cold, about 1200 RPM, and that idle doesn't go away until i turn off the car and let it rest for a bit. I could even drive it around for an hour and the idle would still be high. Is this just something the ECU will eventually correct after dealing with the small air leaks for a while or is something else starting to go?

Edit: i forgot to say what series i had.
