I had these pulleys replated but decided to clear powder the front and backsides of them but not the surfaces the belts ride on. I suspect these pulleys which I powder coated black on the last engine might have somehow caused friction on the belts and made them wear prematurely. I'll be stripping the powder off the other ones. The coolant pipe was new when I installed it two years ago on the broken engine. I clear powder coated it as well.

I cleaned up the bell housing this evening. This picture is after the parts washer. Then I bead blasted it and powder coated it clear. The idea is hopefully it will be a lot easier to keep clean. I also wire wheeled the injectors the other evening and today I took them apart, cleaned everything internally and assembled them with the new denso nozzles. Going to take them in tomorrow and have them pop tested. It was my first time to have any diesel injectors apart and I was surprised how simple they really are. I did some research on things to look for such as erosion on the fuel plate and everything on mine seemed perfect. Hopefully I'll get them back Friday and I'll be able to install them along with the lines.

Picked up this box of goodies this morning. I went ahead and tossed in all of the lines and good portion of the hardware from the broken 12ht. These parts will soon be finding there way onto one of the nos 12h-t engines.

After building a set of injectors I've come to realize the injector nozzle orifices are extremely small and susceptible to blockage and damage by even the smallest piece of trash. I cleaned the injection lines lines as best I could with cleaner and compressed air but at the last minute decided to run my used injectors for ten minutes or so and then swap in the new ones. The pop or opening pressure on them is 3000psi so that should clear out anything that might be stuck in the lines.

I was inspecting the throttle plates from the two engines trying to decide which one to use and noticed that the one on my replacement engine is actually broken. I'll install the one from the original 12h I'd put in the 60 but, in the meantime I need to find a replacement.

I powder coated the last few pieces for this engine. I had these pipes replated last week and powdered them clear over that. The powder changed the color from a gold zinc to almost a stainless sheen. I also started powder coating pieces for the the other 12ht hence the second turbo oil pipe and then pcv pipe.

I also cleaned up the grid heater and throttle plate from the other engine. I guess technically it's a shutter plate since it shuts off the engine.

new hardware I got from work these are locking exhaust manifold nuts for an acura :)

I removed the two studs from the block for the turbo oil feed and supply line and used two bolts instead. The pipe is a real pain to install even with bolts and I don't see how it can be removed or installed without removing the entire turbo manifold with the studs in place.

lots of stuff going on under here so nice to be able to work on it on the engine stand. I'd hate to be plumbing all of these lines with it in the truck

Im leaving the coolant pipes off (hence the capped hoses) that run over the engine as well as the turbo pipes so I can pull the valve cover off easier and the injectors out after I run the engine for a few min to get it to warm up.

I got home late last night and looked through my stash of parts. I vaguely recalled that when I first bought my 60 it had came with a clutch kit for a 74 fj40. The original owner of the fj60 had traded his fj40 to purchase the 60 back in 1987. anyway low and behold in an old crusty box I found this pilot bearing. Been packaged for well over 30 years :)

I have one more night to work on it this evening so im hoping to get the clutch and bell housing on and get the engine sitting back in the frame. I kind of doubtful i'll have time to get everything hooked up but should be pretty darn close...may have to lay out of work and get this thing buttoned up

I hope the truck that gets this engine is just as good looking...

its going into my 87 fj60. its got a couple dings but its a solid truck with no rust. it was originally sold at one of the local dealers and has 155k on the clock. I purchased it with 138k back at the start of the thread.

Yep, this my favorite thread in a while! I need me one of them 12ht!!!

:) Thanks! They are awesome engines. I get a s*** eating grin every time I hear one fire up.

I'm a little jealous, I admit, lol! I do have a 2H with a ct26 that pushes 10psi, great setup. I love the darn thing, however the rust demon is eating away at my truck. I'm glad you don't have to deal with that. Your beast will be awesome.
