Answered, now back to our regular program. Told Onur I got my 3 B manual out to be able to follow and figure out what the hell he is doing. Tons of learning here!!

This 45 is not going into a museum for mummification.

It’s going to be used. And abused.

So got the new crossmember measured, cut, gussetted, and all welded in.

Looks factory. As it should be. Tim is a long time welder and taught me a thing or two today....

Then onto the back....

Thin metal welding is a fine art. With lots of grinder work in between.

Welding is a skill I would love to rekindle from the old FFA days. Very helpful for those that tear s*** up!

Fuel tank was a tough one due to very little working space. Obviously, at the factory the body is off the truck when the fuel tank and lines are installed. It’s a rolling chassis when these parts are installed.

Doing it with the body on blows. Hard.

First the filler neck:

Original tank had 3 pipes and filler neck. Replacement has 2 and filler neck. One had to be welded shut...

Installed. Recommend loosely bolting mounting bolt till most of the hoses are in place then hard bolting it and doing the remainder of the hoses.

Doing this one person would have been brutal. Two people was still brutal.

This little one-way valve vents to atmosphere. Clips right into frame and provides Equalization pressure for the tank...

So... two big projects knocked out today.

Block is painted and dry. Into the garage it goes for rebuild starting tonight.

Next, my good buddy @landwagon (who drove all the way from WV to spend the weekend wrenching with me) and I spent some time taping up the block to get it ready for priming and painting tomorrow.

That shop does good work going with brass freeze plugs.
