I'm surprised by that cracked main cover too. What's the leading theory as to what caused that?

That front cover? probably came out of the Toyota factory like that. Ever seen the top of a new H55f? Same thing.

Tedious process of chasing each threaded hole in the block. Luckily they are all either M10x1.25, M8x1.25 or a few that are M12x1.25.

too scared to run those thread chasers in a cordless drill? :hillbilly:

Cleaning hardware
Another tedious and methodical task of cleaning hardware...

I love the old JIS numerical system and try to keep those pieces of hardware as much as possible.

Some pieces of hardwareI I feel should be replaced:

Little touches like serrations on the bottom of the lock nut flanges are pure Toyota design perfection; those get cleaned and reused:

These are weird pieces of hardware... oil cooler fittings. Not Toyota. When you look these up for replacement (NLA, of course), they have Daihatsu 9004X-XXXXX numbers.... Daihatsu engineers were responsible for these things...

Everything at this point is cleaned, powder coated, painted and organized.

I am now just waiting for #2 main bearing cap and the parts go to machine.

Then the waiting game.

Amazingly enough all of the radiator mounting brackets and bushings were available through TMS, USA. Used my HS-7 and ordered them all up...

The lower bushings are 3F-E pieces (-610XX).

The upper bushings and brackets are from a 2H/12H-T powered truck... (-680XX).

Unfortunately, Toyota Forklift called and said to "pound sand." They don't like me.

Off to find good used versions. Have some leads from Dan at 4Wheel Auto in Canada. Will report back.

www.maintainco.com/, try this place as they are a Toyota forklift dealer and we have been able to source parts for our skid steer from them in the past. they may ask what the parts are for to confirm fitment but they may be able to help. since you have plenty of time now you could even drive down to pick it up :hillbilly:

Doubt it. The Toyota forklift number is discontinued. No Toyota forklift dealer can get them.

It's fine. These are going to machine shop for a clean-up grind. I should be fine.

Started putting the head assembly together. Small steps. Make me feel like I’m moving forward and accomplishing things.

Well, swing and a miss.

Received the replacement bearing cap and it’s incorrect. Damn. Can’t believe so many different little variations with these engines.

You can see the differences between the two caps below. The ones I received fits around the crankshaft fine. But a number of differences:

Replacement on top, broken below:

The bolt hole on the replacement cap is too small. Mine has 16mm diameter bolt holes.

You can see the gap below against the casting on the block side: Incorrect one:

Correct one below:

Correct one to the right, incorrect to the left:

Ugh. Demoralizing.

The incorrect bearing cap came from a 11411-58010 casting block number.

Mine is below:

So, I’m still on the hunt for a main bearing cap. I will need to confirm bolt hole size and engine casting number. I will take any bearing cap— just not #3.

If anyone can help, you’ll be finely rewarded. This issue is now urgent. :(

went and pulled #2 for you, seems like it is also the smaller size

could not post pics through previous PM,

need to figure out which block castings have the 'oversize' bearing caps

Thank you for checking Chris. I really appreciate it.

Confirmed 11411-58030 casting won’t work either.

I’ll keep trying to find one.
