Nice they advertise it as a 1985 Troppy

you can see the sticker with the 1984 date.......but if you look up the Vin number it comes up as a 1994

Otherwise it would been a pre pre pre production prototype Cruiser since the 1FZ did not came out until 92.

Buyer beware on this one !

1fz was developed in mid to late 80s by toyota (86-87 iirc) - never reached U.S. and most markets in full force til early 90s. Early ones were carb'd in japan - and didnt have the -FE til later. Toyota was using them in a variety of models mainly within Japan and asian markets. There was a ton of cool developments going on in the Toyota network in that mid to late 80s / early 90s most of which were around machining processes and machine development- forging processes/ crank machining etc. The Toyota timeline refers to these engineering improvements and they were testing/ refining and developing a ton in this period. It was a fairly prolific period of development for Toyota.

Yep, manufactured 05/1994, That sticker was probably put there by a registered importer who's licensed to make modifications to bring it up to DOT standards. Having the wrong manufacture date does look rather shady though.

"REAL VIN NUMBER ON THE TITLE IS FZJ750020844 (THE VIN NUMBER LISTED IS 17 CEROS BECAUSE EBAY DID NOT ALLOW US TO ENTER A SMALLER ONE) .The vehicle belonged to the Embassy of the United States of America in Russia, and was legally imported into the United States by Insurance Auto Auctions by Mr. Nathan Moore." "This is a true Japanese version, assembled in Japan 100%."

A 100 percent true japanese version, made for US embassy in Russia...so of course it's a left hand drive. Can't even get the pics and names to match, note Mr. Nathan Moore of insurance Auto Auctions imported, while the pic of the....some kind of tag was imported by Barry Taylor Enterprises. I mean it's sort of entertaining in a three stooges kind of way, but it's also depressing

The U.S. owns a lot of really cool land cruiser all over the world, but even Uncle Sam is not exempt from his own import laws, believe me, if that were a loophole I would have used it long ago.

Interesting, a carb'd 1FZ with ? LX450 wheels, wish they kept it white though.

Nobody noticed all the Colombian parts on this truck so far ?

Carpets are colombian, door panels also, the second door handle on the passenger side or all typical for Latin America not the rest of the world markets as far as I know.

We are getting closer to enter the danger zone in importing, hopefully the success of the Cruisers will not follow the path of the LR Defenders :(

Talking with a couple of buddies about this. It's a definite gray market one. The front end looks like a early 90s, not an 84. While 91 is almost OK to import, its certainly not worth the risk after the land rover debacle. As others have said, buyer beware. Outside of that, it is a nice truck.

Nice sleuthing guys. Looks sketchy. And imported by Insurance Auto Auctions? The place that sells wrecked/totaled cars?

Also, I question if the 1FZ came out in 84 like wikipedia states. But hey, if we read it on the web it must be true...... The 1FZ was not the successor to the 2F, the 3F was. As you know, the 2F ceased in 1987, while the 3F was in 85-92. So there was some overlap.

Toyodiy.com says it was manufactured in May of 1994, so that's the manufacture date regardless of what someone's aftermarket sticker says. That said, a 1994 model can be here if you want to pay a registered importer to make it DOT compliant and they're willing to take such a rare specimen under their insurance bond. Nevertheless, if that sticker is from a registered importer, then they made a huge error in the DOM or they're hiding something. If the vehicle was manufactured in 1994 and its here legally, advertise it as such. Ask the seller for the DOT HS7 form. If box 3 is checked with attached documentation, ditch the sketchy sticker and drive it proudly, if box 1 is checked and the title says it's a 1984 respectfully withdraw your bid and look for something else. Hopefully the seller reads this post and makes the proper decision, because it would really suck if this kind of thing ruins it for those of us who obey the law and just want to drive kick ass land cruisers!

"There is no there there" Gertrude Stein. Or a picture is worth ...whatever time one will waste on it. No matter how much disinformation is dumped; it doesn't give it value. At this point, it's obvious, it's just pictures, poorly constructed pictures.

apparently someone posted on Bringatrailer ( where its also spotlighted) that this Troopy was sold on Copart in Texas a while back. The poster had a link to the rig with matching numbers. So its already been wrecked which would explain the pieceing together of a variety of Columbian and 80 parts.
