Losing my mind a little here and need another set of eyes on this. So I’m replacing the head gasket on the 60 and accidentally discarded the old head gasket. Trying to get the OEM gasket from Toyota but they’re telling me my VIN doesn’t pull up to verify which gasket I need. 1985 had 2 options for head gasket and I’m just trying to figure out which one I need. Here’s pics of the bottom of the head and top of the block along with pictures of the 2 gasket options. Any input is greatly appreciated!

The correct gasket hole cutouts don’t exactly match the holes in the block intentionally.

11115-61030 is the gasket you want.

Ok that's the one I was leaning toward. I just don't want to make the mistake of getting the wrong gasket and having to redo everything. Thanks for the input!

Yes, 61030 is correct for '85 >

Looks like you may have done it already, but be sure and run a tap to clean up the head-bolt holes and then blow them out. Per FSM, a few drops of oil or antiseize on threads for proper torque.

Sounds good, that's the one I'm going to order. I have the FSM and I've been going step by step so we should be good to go

just checking if the oil galley plug was taken care of?

@OSS Interesting that the 2F head is 61040, but the last 5 digits of the HG part number are 61030. I'm sure somewhere there's somebody who knows the Toyota part numbering conventions (cough *beno* cough) that could explain, but the one digit difference caught my eye.

Exactly. Made me question myself even more.

I will definitely be looking into doing this while the head is off. Thanks for the advice

@CruiserTrash
The new head gasket is designed for both the 3F-E and the 2F. Either one.
When the original head gasket (and part number) was made, there wasn’t a 3F engine.
Newer part numbers generally don’t follow the old convention

Update. Got the gasket from Toyota this morning and did a test fit. Here’s a couple pictures. There’s one hole on the front of the block that is covered up by the HG. The other gasket option has this hole but does not have the holes for the 2 coolant passages in between the 2-3/4-5 cylinders on the drivers side as this one does. So I’m still a little weary. What do you guys think?

Use the 61030. It's an updated design to help cooling for the rear cylinders. All the holes won't line up

It’s the right gasket. Restricting coolant flow in one area by either covering a coolant passage or restricting it, increases flow somewhere else.
There’s a hole or two in the block that gets completely covered by the gasket. A few holes in the block aren’t even coolant passage holes.

It seems that on closer examination, Toyota decided to change the flow pattern a bit to improve overall cooling. An engineering upgrade.

The late 2F, 3F and 3FE head-gasket part # was originally 11115-61020 which was superseded to the 61030 which is the updated gasket spec'd for the late 2F, 3F and 3FE head. Both 60 and 80 series, in the USA.

I've never seen a 61020 gasket, so I'm guessing the supersession to 61030 was pretty early .

Anyway, @DenaliJames , don't worry about the holes (that's what she said!) the Toyota OE 61030 gasket is the best you can get.

And dude, clean your block surface! :grinpimp:

Good luck and now's the time for a new fan clutch with that new water pumper

Block surface is definitely next on the agenda. You’re probably right on the fan clutch, I should do that while I have it apart. Thanks for the advice!
