We had 1985 FJ40's in Venezuela and even a small number of 1986's, but in North America, 1984 was the last year. Specifically, 1983 was the last year fpr the FJ40 in the US, and 1984 was the last year for the BJ42 in Canada.

I'd seen two 1984 BJ42's up close before, Mike Taylor's well-documented one (which came with the factory chrome package), and another green one that showed up at the Catamount Cruiser Challenge a long time ago.

On Friday, I saw another one at JK Customs. There's very little left that's OEM, but I thought you'd like to see the VIN tag, it's not often one sees these rare birds.

    Cheers!

Mine is a 7/84 BJ-42--three months before the end of the line for North American J40's. Beautiful truck.

I've heard of a handful of US-spec 1984's, all coming originally through Hawaii, but I've never seen any. I got a couple of pictures of one, but not of the VIN. Wes, if you can grab some shots of the VIN, I would be in your debt!

Venezuela got the 40 series (FJ40, FJ45 pickup and troopie) until they received the 70 series in 1987, but the numbers for 1985 and 1986 were small. It's even specified on the Toyota microfiche. Some weird local specifications, like no ambo doors on the post-1974 FJ40's, no heater on any 40 series (but A/C) and locally-produced beds on the FJ45 pickups after 1980.
