You could probably take the one on the truck apart and weld an extension onto the upper part of the support arms to create the added length.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I know a few pretty solid welders that could do a nice job with this.
Should I assume the top tube is just an extra 18"?

I didn't measure, but that sounds about right. I always mix up the 44 dimensions over a 40/42. IIRC it's 14" in the bed and 6" in the wheelbase...

Edit: Just checked in the manual:
BJ43/44/46 Frame length = 4038mm/159in
BJ43/44/46 Wheelbase length = 2430mm/96in

FJ/BJ40/42 Frame length = 3680mm/145in
FJ/BJ40/42 Wheelbase length = 2285mm/90in

So the wheelbase is 6" longer and the body is 14" longer as I thought...

not trying to hijack the thread but a factory FJ40 rollbar will have to be extended to look proper. I took 2 factory rollbars and had my welder make one plus added 2 B pillars. Here is a shot of it completed.

That's awesome! I've been trying to visualize that my 44 would look like topless. I was going to do the opposite of you, with the two large hoops at the furthest from each other and spreader bars between the two with stock clamps. I hope to have the top off in about two months and the bar installed... pics will come shortly!

I look forward to some pics.
