Okay, I know it's a diesel. An H engine I gather. So what does that mean. I am understanding it is a good torque engine and not a highway monster. So any bad things I should know?
All comments are wecome. I just want to know what to expect from this kind of engine. I have never owned a diesel.

Thanks for your time

Waiting a whole hour and five minutes before being an ass?

It is a six-cylinder diesel.

Keep oil in it and it will work great and last a long time.

No bad things. Get a manual and do the maintenance and it should give you a long faithful life.
They are not fast but they always get there:D
I guess your in NA somewhere which means parts can not be bought off the shelf.
I would get a little stash of oil and fuel filters,a spare set injectors,a spare primer pump and any other bits and pieces you can find on ebay or anywhere else at the right price.

H means it was the 1st in the series, then 2H and then the highly popular 12HT(factory turbo) was the ultimate in its short reign before emissions laws killed it off.

Dont intentionally double post or the mods will get pissed off

I had a 1980 HJ45. It came from the factory with a 2H engine. Yours may have the 2H. A little more power than the "H". Great work truck. Not very comfortable though. Great engine. Like you were told, it's not a highway monster. Gearing and 4 spd w/o OD will keep you off the freeways.

Well since the rig isn't here yet I don't know which engine is in it. I don't suppose the vin# tells you anything like the American stuff.

Just in case, vin# HJ45046727. Mean anything to anyone. I wil try and research it myself, but honestly if you can't drive it or shoot it, I am somewhat handicapped at operating it.

Thanks.

This thread is useless with out pics.
Lets see her.

The fenders have a bit on the edges where the half a$$ flares are screwed on. And on the rear near the sill. The sill itself is good under the doors but just to the left and the right of doors the sill is bad for about 6 inches on each side. And I am sure if I look hard enough there will be some more here and there I have pictures of the pans and they are good. So it should not be too awful a mess to fix up. And most important my wife really likes it.

I lost my my last FJ40 in a divorce. I had a 1964 spring over, super swampers, 350, turbo 350, chevy tilt column, but it came down to that or the 1970 454 RS Camaro and I only had $3500 in the cruiser so now I am moving on to a Troopie, which for all the Landcruisers I have owned or helped modify etc. I never knew existed until two weeks ago. Crazy world.

If its from aust we are pretty strict on manufactures plates being attached to the vehicle when sold.
As with all cruisers it should have a plate on the firewall which tells you all about the engine and driveline
