Will the Aisin hubs from a solid axle Toyota truck fit on a '79 FJ40? I know that Aisin hubs came on some FJ40s in the '79-'83 model years. Are the '79 birfields short enough for the shorter bodied Aisins?

just to be sure you are referring to the locking hubs?

79 is a transition year, if it was made after Jan 1979 it should be the same.
if it was born before Jan, Sept thru Dec 1978 titled as a 79 then no

Yes, the ‘79 birfs are short enough. In fact, they are identical.

If it was titled as a 79 and built prior to 1/79 it was something a state did not Toyota. I'm sure all the 40s made late 78 with the tank under the seat came with a owners manual calling it a 78. I wouldn't call it a transition year. Just like 75 a later start than normal. Those years had major changes and all seem to happen at one time. Tub, frame, seats, bib/bezel and front axle changes all happened 1/79. Interior changed from dark grey to lighter grey. Rollbar black to light grey.

Yes, the locking hubs. Thanks guys, that's what I was thinking, just needed to verify.
