Ok, I've been going through the site and Im just going to ask, If you had to buy a new carb and distributor today, where would you go? My mechanic says the ones I just bought less than 8 months ago is junk. Bought from jtoutfitters.
Thanks in advance

What did you buy from JTO?

If you had to buy a new carb and distributor today, where would you go?

Carb: either rebuilt Aisin from Mark's Offroad, or a new copy from City Racer.

Distributor: FJ60 "big cap", rebuilt by Jim C. You'll have to buy the dizzy for him to rebuild, and the dished 2F side cover that goes with it from the Mud classifieds (that's where I bought mine).

I would call Mark’s Offroad Burbank, CA
‭1 (818) 953-9230‬. In case you are not aware, He is a cruiser guru/mechanic. He has a massive collection of Japanese carbs and distributors. You can speak with him on the phone, which is nice.

what are the issues you are having? what is he using to say they are junk?

I am not a mechanic but have purchased several different carburetors over the years and the only one that fixed my issues was a Weber 36/36 and I got them from TPI. My 2 cents. I have prob 4 carbs in my garage if someone interested in a good deal. I know one is brand new and it’s a 36/32 from jtoutfitters.

Sorry guys but I don't know that much about the mechanics of a carb and distributor, just my experience and opinion tells me the carb and distributor is junk because of the trouble I've had from them since day one. The ECI distributor (If I'm sying that right) went out after three months, fried is how it was described to me so we rebuilt it. It lasted three more months. It may totally be a mechanic thing, but this guy has done me well over the past thirty years, and for my area about the only one I can trust. Ever since the carb was installed, I have lost power, so much so the pedal was on the floor any time it was driven. Lots of back firing, and loss of power. It may totally be my mechanic, but I don't know. Anyone close to the Nashville, Tn area you would recommend? I told my mechanic about Mark's offroad, so he's planning to call him. Thank you guys in advance for all the recommendations and help.

FWIW. I had a desmogged 79 which I sold 2 years ago. ( have regretted it every since) I had similar issues with the carburetor and did speak with Mark from Marks Off-road. He told me that the 79 carb is the worst carb ever put on the 2f engine. The original distributor however is very good. I would try to get an original distributor. And then get a rebuilt non USA 79 carb from Mark or someone else. I went with a new Carb from Trollhole, a vendor here on mud. I believe it was a non USA and they may be Chinese. Then I taught myself ( using info from mud) how to adjust valves, timing and carb using a vacuum gauge. Never had problems after that. My 40 always ran great and had good power.

Ok I have a list of parts. I need a carb, Distributor, Cam shaft, cam shaft gears, gaskets to install cam shaft with water pump, and a new master cylinder the one with 2 switches on it. Where do you guys recommend I get these part from?
