After saving for a couple of years for as close to a 12/77 Mustard cruiser I could find, I found one right here on mud for sale and the timing was right.
I'm sorry to say the purchase experience was horrible, and I overpaid by about 9 grand, but I vented about it and kicked off the project.
My goal has always been to do a correct and totally stock restoration, purist style all the way down to the paperwork in the glove box.
First, I started a purist thread just to figure out what on earth cobbled mess of cruiser parts I just paid 20 grand for.
So, after venting and squawking about it and learning from my mistakes, here we go!
Basic drivability, I need to fix the upside down/backwards e-brake and disconnected cable. Someone in the recent months went through the trouble of installing a brand new brake cable.
You can see in the for-sale photos the handle is pointed in the wrong direction. The wires for the e-brake light/buzzer? were hanging down and the barrel connector was disconnected as well.
Upon reconnecting it and adjusting per the FSM (7-12 clicks on the handle and counterclockwise on the 10mm nut at the drum until it bottoms out and then back off a click). The e-brake is functional.
Is the above correct? Albeit missing the spring.
FSM instructions I used:
More to follow.
