1978 FJ 40 steps/rock sliders thinking about building step/rock sliders I picked up some 6“ x 2“ tube and started mocking it up. I have some more trimming to do. Thanking about going all the way to the wheel arch in the rear. Leaving in about 1/2 out from the body a quarter inch from the bottom of the body. Thoughts or suggestions?

Trim up the rockers and get more clearance at the same time.

AFTER I built my sliders for my 40 I saw a design I liked better. Stuck out 1” wider than the back tire, improving the odds of being able to use it to pivot around a corner without jamming the tire or catching the rim on the same rock.

I will bump it out more. I love the idea cutting the rocker but the co-pilot has short legs needs the step function

I made mine out of 4x2x.25" tube, cut the rocker up as far as I could and also tied them into the tube fenders. Have hit these very hard and they have held up perfectly.

My wife is similarly ‘vertically challenged’ so the sliders on my 45 sit under uncut rockers.

Kick out chain ladder 😁

I get it, my wife couldn't get into mine. A buddy had a step stool for his wife that he would put down for her. Kinda like Cinderella getting out of the pumpkin chariot.

I used 2x2s; they handle the load of the truck (whooped on them several times) are wide enough for entry assist, but narrow enough I don’t have to worry about mud I can’t see
