just a thought... would a scout style PS box fit better? (or fj60, or astrovan... i here the astro box is very compact)
nice work! carl

Honestly, I dont know. Some of the diesel guys might know more of what would work. Planning on using a Toyo Mini Truck after seeing Radd Cruisers setup.

Yep, blow that little B engine up if ya can then either a 3B,H55,splitcase or bump up to a nifty little 13BT,H55,splitcase.

You almost double the cost between the 3B and 13BT, but there is good reason. If your handy you could throw a booty turbo on the 3B and be pretty happy.

Looking real sharp thier kid......

Poser is right on this...H41. No plans at this time to swap
that out. If and when that B goes I was thinking of tossing a 3B into it. TURBOs are cool :D but that is far down the road for this rig right now...

I'm with Rob, kill 2 birds with one stone and make it a 13BT. The 5th in the H55 makes it a nice DD truck but if yer wheelin' it on the weekends then no need. Gotta be compatibility issues 13BT+H41 but not 13BT+H55F. www.gscruiserparts.com sells the latter combo as an unseparated unit.

plug it in and go?!?

We got going this morning and put the rear cross member in for the engine/tranny. Run a tap through all the old bolt holes to ease the installation.

We raised the engine up after that and swapped out that aft motor mount. The old one actually looked like it was in great condition so that might be going up on ebay. The front ones went on as well. (THANKS AGAIN CDAN!!)
Used the Skidsteer to move it to the chassis and dropped it in no problem. Pretty cool to see that get put back in.

Put the rest of the hardware on the shackles, replacing the lock washers after we tore them off.

We also ran and got my Gozzard tub and set that on the frame. Went well, did it with only three people. Planning on only installing 4 of the 12 mounts for the trip to GA.

Would have put shocks on but I need some cupped washers. I have most of them, but some how a few must have ended up in the snowbank ;)

That pretty much wrapped up the BJ work. Went with my buddy Matt to work on his LV. If you havent seen it in the FJ45 section you really outta. A lot of great work on this thing. We put his body back on the frame. Went pretty well. Awesome to see. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=39575

Man... Great looking work. Ya'll are nucking futs working in that snow... keep it up, and keep the pics comin!!

HAHAHA thanks, I move to GA and I miss the winters up north. I know that sounds a little sadistic at times but really not many places you can just setup and sandblast on the road.

Travis

working in the snow is not that hard...you dress warm and take your time...you get use to the cold and you can accomplish loads of work !!
At the end of the day you feel great cause you were outside all the time and you sleep like a baby !
Grew up in Churchill Falls Labrador and worked in the arctic so I know what it is like and would really prefer it over working in 25+ cel ! You can dress for the cold but not the heat

She looks awsome man ..keep it up...I hope to get back at my BJ soon .

just take it with me....

Today we took the torch to the old body...I felt kind of bad about it but I wanted the firewall with me for placing parts on the new Gozzard Tub. The old tub was shot but still didnt like doing it....pulled all the hardware and brackets off too. Doors are traveling with. One is bent up pretty bad from the rollover they had with it but I have another that will work fine.

Also cut off the metal bracket on the inside of the fenders for the fiberglass fenders.

Had to pick up my trailer and odds n ends for the trip so that took some time as well. Hope to put the BJ on the trailer tomorrow for the trip.

Gotta say that's relatively minor Canuck cancer there.... but yep it's time for the 'glass.

"Rebuilt" Aisins? What did you do? Did you do that paint job? Those look.... new! (Not that I would know...)

Nice.... wish I had half the tools and skills you have. Welcome to the BJ club!

I am excited to be putting in the glass tub :D

Those Aisins? Well I bought them with another rig and the PO said they were rebuilt. They look awesome. I would have thought them to be new by just looking at them. I didnt even know how lucky I scored on that deal till a buddy of mine told me.

I was lucky with the tools and the skills come with the advice from others. The right tools make the job much easier thats for sure. Thanks, I completely love the BJ.

Thanks for the compliment and I will keep in mind about the info with BJs. They are unique where I am at, thats for sure.

Gotta make it clear so the purists dont start sending me hate mail ;) but this wont be a complete restoration (i.e the fiberglass tub) but I dont want to go extreme and lose the Cruiser look.

Thanks,

Travis

Loaded up...

Well, shop is pretty much closed up till I get to GA. Leaving Friday so it will take a couple days to get there and hope to be wrenching again by the following weekend.

Today we tightened a few bolts and my brother and I pushed it up onto the trailer and tightened it down with two 2 inch ratchet straps around the axles. We drove it into town and picked up some wood to 'chalk' the wheels and make a box behind the cruiser to hold some of the parts to take back with me. I dont want this thing giving me problems while traveling the 1600 miles it has to go.

We loaded up a few parts and tomorrow need to grab the rest of them and secure them and get ready to set off for the trip.

Sorry guys progress is going to stop for a few days..but already planning on things as soon as I get there. Cant get enough of this.....

I think I might strap it more than that. The general idea is to attach the straps to the frame so you can take the spring out of the suspension. You want the trailer suspension working, not the 40's. Of course, you don't have as much weight on that 40 as you normally would, so it may not matter quite as much.
