I have a 1978 BJ40 with the little "B" engine. I've owned her since 1988.
Two questions :
1. I have replaced/had rebuilt just about everything that bolts to the motor save the alternator and the oil pump that bolts to the rear of the alternator. It is time to replace/rebuild those two items. I am guessing that a new one costs two arms and a leg, but I also heard rumor of rebuild kits that are available. Does anyone know if a rebuild kit for the oil pump is available, and how much? If not, has anyone purchased a new alternator/oil pump combo recently and if so, what did you pay?

2. The starter is also about due for a rebuild. Is there available rebuild kits for 24v starters?

I'm going to try to attach a pic of her. Haven't done an attachment on here before so hopefully it works!

on the back of your alternator is a vacuum pump, that needs oil lubrication to keep it from seizing. Not an oil pump.

Nice truck. Welcome to the forum.

The starter has replaceable contacts, search on here.

The alternator can be re brushed.

There is even a kit for the vacuum pump. Again search.
