I continue to be amazed with the restoration of this Colombian FJ40...My latest discovery found body mounts missing. Why would you go through all this work only to omit two important mounts as shown? My question - what mounts have proven the test of time? My 1972 and 1969 40’s mounts all deteriorated. Is there a stainless steel option? As you can see in the images, this truck was delivered to the US in June 2019 and the rear body mounts are already rusting...

Because sa hack job?
Those nuts with no stiffners shout quality as do those high quality tail lights.

Thanks @DSRTRDR I’ll check them out. @brian - yes, those tail lights are getting replaced with two OEM tail lights along with many other improvements. Can you elaborate on what you observed with the “nuts with no stiffners”...I’m tackling one issue at a time and will add this to the list.

Can anyone elaborate on the previous comment made by @brian? Also, the body mount kit I located via @cruiseroutfit is this kit. Energy Suspension 8.4104G Land Cruiser Bodymount Set

If anyone has any experience installing this mount kit, please let me know if they are happy with it. I’m not sure how to mount the retainer between 4/5 as illustrated below to the body as I’m not removing the tub. Has anyone found a way to get the mount secured under this without removing tub?

Right. The pad is connected to the steel on the tub but cannot figure out how to secure it.

Can you show us a pix of the pad that is supposed to be in that location? Some jacking of the tub (an inch or so) might be helpful to let you sneak the pad and some sort of retainer in there. It doesn't look like there's a hole in the frame below that mount point, right?

There is no pad there now and do not have the body mount kit yet. Just planning the work now and mapping out the process. Below is image from the other side.

No worries on that spot as far as rigidity or strength. Just a pad to absorb bumps rattles.

Factory was a thick fabric pad similar to what you find under the radiator frame. Its held in place with a clamping spring like the ones found on the pads in the rear of the aprons, and also used to retain window felts / rubbers.

Like this...

The energy suspension kit uses neoprene pads. You could probably get away with any sort of rubber pad. Iirc they are about 3/16 inch think.

I’ve never seen a clamp like the one in the image you posted. Do you have a source for these? The kits all show a retaining screw that is attached to the body from under the felt/neoprene mount.

You are correct, the kits use a one way clip similar to what you see with door panels etc. You push it in and it's good.
The one I pictured is the OEM style.

It's a bit longer than a standard clip used for Apron pads iirc.

It now makes sense to me. The description and the images solves the mystery in my brain. Thank you. I’m going to need to improvise seeing that there is no hole in the bottom of the metal tub above where the pad would be installed.

Keep an eye on Fee-bay for the correct Energy Suspension part number for your year 40. I bought a complete body kit NIB for $60 and free shipping. Every once in a while Fee-bay comes through.....unless you are a seller. Then they bend you over like the star actress on a porn set.

I new I still had an old set laying around.

Here's a clear picture...

Thanks @thecrazygreek this is very helpful. So does this wrap around and clip into holes in frame or around steel body tub cross member?

@Ackcruisers , the steel fingers compress together as they pass through the hole and then expand on the inside to hold them in place.

Thanks @Drake2, what a useful clip. I will drill two holes on either side of the metal cross member attached to bottom of tub, wrap the neoprene or felt around it and insert the clips.

I ended up installing all new body mounts. The energy suspension system created a noticeable softer ride. I jacked each side carefully…do not forget to un bolt the front fenders.
