1976 FJ40 Rear Axle Removal: Washer fell out. HELP! (1 Viewer)

So I was removing the rear axles on my 1976 FJ40 I took off the backing plate to the pumpkin, removed the bolt and pin. I then removed the C clips and when I did this washer clunked to the bottom of the diff. What is it and where does it belong? Any help would be appreciated. I put a half roll of black electrical tape next to it so you can see the size.

That washer goes behind the spider gear in your diff carrier. I think the smooth side faces the wheel, but I would check the other washer to confirm.

OK excellent what is a spider gear and when you mean behind do you mean on the drive shaft side?

The spider gear is part #15 and the washer is part #16. The spider gear is the gear that you removed from the end of the axle when you took off the c clip.

Ok that makes sense. I tried real hard not to remove anything so I wouldn't be in this mess but I guess jiggling the parts around things happen. Thanks for your response.

They’re held inplace by the center pin. Only fit one way - smooth side out.

Look at the two little gears one on each end of the black spacer block one fell out from behind the Little gear as you probably rotated the axle

It slips back in pretty easy.
