Saw this on another FJ40 and wondering if this modification is widely adopted.

Intuitively, it appears to add some structure to support the heavy transmission. As a point of reference, my 1976 General Markets FJ40 came stock with a 3 speed and I just bolted up my H42 and matching transfer case.

That looks like an engine swap part from I6 to chevy v8.

I'm running one of those. In a FJ55 with a doubler.

No need for one, the 4-speeds on the stock FJ40s were supported solely by the bellhousing. I've never had a problem with the 4-speeds in my '71 and '76 FJ40s.

X2 there are tens of thousands still running like that around the world.

that propeller bracket was used when installing a V8 to be used as a rear mount as the V8 did away with the bellhousing mounts.

Thanks for responding everyone. That explains it. 2F engines with 4 speed bellhousing were designed and engineered to handle the weight of the transmission and transfer case. All the schematics and FSM’s make no reference to the “supporting bracket”. The bracket was used primarily for v8 swaps.
