My FJ40 has been sitting for a year and now won't start. It's stock/original except for a brand new Weber carburetor. We are in the DISTRIBUTOR and we are finding it difficult to get parts (points, rotor, etc). I am considering a Pertronix electronic ignition conversion kit for the existing distributor.

What do you recommend? Do you like the Pertronix? Are there vendors who sell parts for the existing set up, including distributors?

I did ping Land Cruiser Specialists in Austin, TX and I am waiting for their advice as well.

Pertronix insists that I will need new plug wires - SUPPRESSION CORE spark plug wires. Any idea where I might buy these? My local NAPA is checking (slowly). Do I need 6 wires or 7 (one to the distributor)? NAPA's wires are a set of 7.

I am a fan of the Pertronix ignition. Which distributor do you have? A stock distributor in '74 might be a vacuum retard. Which i am not a fan of.
If i was you, i might call Mark A. In Burbank, Ca. And order one of his rebuilt '69 vacuum advance distributors with the Pertronix already installed.
New plug wires are a good idea, should not be hard to find

I get my tune up parts- plugs, cap, rotor, points, etc for my 1974 from the Toyota dealer parts counter.
