1974 F.5 - cam/crank gear options (1 Viewer)

Hey guys, I'm going to be pulling the camshaft for a regrind on this F.5 motor. With the state the motors' in (sludgy and abused), I figure the rubber on the cam gear is probably not in good shape; I'm looking for options. Looks like the oft-recommended Melling 2202 is no longer available, so I'm looking at OE (don't want to use ITM).

I've read some posts that say to use the stock gear (same between F.5 and 2F) that has the rubber damping ring, and others that say solid is better. If I go solid, is a 3FE cam gear compatible? Both are available so just need to make a choice. Whichever I choose, I'll get the matching crank gear.

OK, so decided to just go with the stock timing gears: 13523-60030 for camshaft (steel, has the rubber ring) and 13521-60010 for crankshaft (steel). I couldn't find the OE P/N for solid (did see aftermarket solid options, but nah) but the rubber-ring gear seems it would be fine for a long while.

...looks like 3FE timing gears are a no-go for me, being made of Novotext (or a similar composite material).

I also looked up the 13523-60030 on overseas suppliers, namely PartSouq: https://partsouq.com/en/search/all?q=13523-60030

...looking at the pic they have of the Zuiko gear, looks like it's also made of Novotext. Cheap, though. HTH

do you simply need a matching set of NOS OEM Toyota Genuine Parts new timing gears for the crank shaft and cam shaft ? 13523-60030 & 13521-60010
