Well its my fault for being lazy. I have been working on this project. However i have only posted on the facebook group. As i update here i will delete over there and try to post more here.

this stuff happened around feb 3 this year way before rona hit us.

Not sure if this is where the fun starts. If its even going to be fun. But getting the tub out was tedious. Especially a one man job.

Good thing the rotisserie was already here with me. The frame overall looks pretty good. Has a lot of gunk. First thing will be to strip the frame and get it blasted.

Good thing i had this work horse built a while back.
getting the frame ready to be cleaned and blasted.

On february 4, 2020. “Copied from facebook group”

today i pressured washed the frame to get all the dirt off. Noticed this shock rubbing on the steering linkage.

FD958248-46A4-49FA-B720-CFA32B74163A.jpeg

Im going to assume its not normal.

Im new at this, is there any reason PO chose this kind of shock, vs a normal?

Is this a load adjusting shock? was told by some members it was the thing in the 80’s

Going oem on this one, and will get tossed....

Took rear axle today. Of course some bolts gave me trouble.

A49C4903-70AD-46A5-8B20-733597682552.jpeg

I had to cut two bolts to remove driver shackle. This looks aftermarket. But not sure. What is the best way to see if i have aftermarket springs other than marks. Because i cant find any. I rather keep oem height. Ill probably refinish these springs.

Spring Height is approx 20 cm or 4 1/8 inches.

I learned this today to remove broken bolts. On the fj40

First weld a washer to protect the chassis nut.
E6E5CB01-E060-433B-A986-B9F6066F1F95.jpeg

Then weld a nut on the broken bolt.
C562B0BC-230B-4F22-AB53-3B274877BB1E.jpeg

Not always easy. But i have recovered 6 broken bolts.

Hopefully it helps anyone.

Waiting for it to dry and then start painting it black. Then start transplanting stuff in it. Still long ways to go.

Im doing axle swap. To a 1974 fj40.

Using the axles from an 81. Noticed the mount point for the 81 is in the plate not the axle.

The spot for the power steering pump has this weird contraption. Any idea? Not seen before. Turned out to be a pump for possibly a snow plower...

after careful review, I think this car was a snow plower and rusted out with time.....

Spent couple of hours taking apart one side of the front axle. Will probably see if i get locking hubs, since it had these plates that lock the axle all time.
