I have a 1970 FJ40 with standard 15" wheels. I have done a disc brake conversion and am wondering if I can put 16"x7" Tacoma wheels on without major modifications. They are the same bolt pattern, and I know I'd have to use spacers on the front at the very least. The thickest I've seen are 4". Would these be enough, and what other modifications would I need to do?

You would definitely need spacers to clear the tie rods but other than that they should fit just fine.

Just tested a Tacoma rim on our 40 a few weeks ago.

Thanks Eicca. What thickness spacers worked for you? No problems with the tires rubbing when turning sharp?

I didn't actually end up putting the 16s on the 40 (lengthy story), so I can't help you with the spacers.
