Working on my 1969 FJ40 FST survivor, getting ready to order a new soft top for it. I noticed I don't have any footman loops on the rear quarter panels, it doesn't look like they've been removed either as it's original paint (the holes you see at the top of the tub are from a P.O. homemade hard top). I've got 6 on the tailgate and that's it. Is this normal for an FST model? Should I add them to properly fasten the soft top down?

Thanks,
Justin

That year used the twist type fasteners all the way around the corners. Then the footmans along the door.
You can add loops which will provide more adjustment for your new top.

I encountered the same mystery on one of my factory soft top FJ40s. Turns out there was a version of the soft top that didn't use the corner loops.

Like the other guys mentioned, you won't be able to tighten it down as much as the ones that had footman loops around the corners, but if you are going for original, get a top made like this early photo...
