Quick update before the weekend:

Planning on pulling the body off tomorrow, but I'm wondering if anyone has any advice before I do. I left the steering column on, and was going to just lift the body off and back over the column.

Also, here are a few other photos from the last couple of weeks, and discovering some OEM bits that I've never seen before:

Battery Tray Pads (these look to maybe have been cloth infused with rubber?)

Felt Fuel Tank Pads

I mentioned these earlier in the thread, but here are a couple more detailed photos.

And some photos with the fenders, bib, and hood removed:

Factory Heater Firewall Cutouts:
Recently discovered that this mid-64 build FJ40L is one of the earliest I've seen with a factory heater. @andybudge has a right-hand drive mid-64 that is only 187 off the line after mine (his is 32748 and mine is 32561), and his doesn't have a factory heater. Can anyone explain why that would be the case?

Regarding the Battery Tray, can anyone enlighten me on this? It looks different than the one I see in pictures online because the threaded rod is actually front and back, not driver/passenger. Was this something to do with the early FJ40?? Also, what did the hold down look like for this style? I’m trying to be as factory correct as possible. Thanks!

My early 65 FST also has the tray like yours. Hold down on the ends.

Heaters were optional early on starting some time in ‘64. I’ve seen some ‘65s without heaters. Though I think they became standard at least in the US market by’66

I believe they were just plan old thick tan canvas. You should have them under your radiator support frame and under each running board. I made my own for my resto but recently saw they are still available albeit a slightly different color.

Did you have to fabricate that hold down?

No luckily mine was still present and in good shape. I believe I have another on one of my cruisers so if you need better pictures and dimensions to make your own let me know.

Yeah, that would be great to get some dimensions. I’ll have to make one.

My early 65 FST did not come with a heater stock.

Mine is definitely a mid to late-1964 build (registered and tagged in California in 65) and has a factory heater. What is your vin#?

Yeah, yours must have been an early-64 build. Mine is 32561. Might Dirtbag Fj40 is 4FJ 23390 though and it does not have a factory heater. Less than 100 numbers apart!

Too awesome! I love how close they are :D Alright dirtbag- assembly line brothers

Oh, and Dirtbag does have a dealer-option heater though:
