the 79 diffs are the same as 60 diffs.

that is a nice starting point.
spare tire under the bed?
some 45lp's had the lights at the end of the crossmember and others were in the bed.
curious are 79 diffs different than earlier diffs, like 70-78?

Congrats on your truck. I also just got a '64 swb - well, about 2 months ago. Anyhow, I like what your planning and will be following your thread. And will be starting my own thread one of these days too.

Cheers,
Mike

I love that spring green, definitely keep the patina! Should be a fun one, looks like the body is in pretty good shape! Sometimes it’s just as well not having the original drivetrain, you don’t have to bend over backwards trying to keep it original and searching for difficult to source parts. The 2F is a great engine, can’t really go wrong there. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

1979 is tough as it was a transition year, later 1979, Jan 79+ would have 3:70 ratio
1978 up thru Dec 1978 would have 4:10 ratio with fine spline pinion
1970-1977 would be 4:10 ratio with coarse spline pinion
flange changes also thru the years, mostly 1974 or 75?? with going from external snap rings to internal on the spider caps

Looking forward to your build Kevin! Let me know if you want that TEQ medallion back.

I appreciate it, you hang on to it. I going to press forward with new trinkets :)

Kevin

I’m pretty sure I have an extra rear axle housing with the sway bar mounts. It’s yours is you want it. Just say the word.

Consider it an almost-birthday present.😉

Mark, thank you very much for the offer!! I'm planning on using a set of axles from a 79 FJ40. I will need to fab up a couple of anchor points on it.

any updates on this build?
Would love to see progress

Non sequitor. You’re going to rebuild the axle anyway, so you could just as easily stuff the parts into a better housing.

I have had the thread for a week. So there is not much build progress. Mainly Parts Gathering. LOL

Let the parts gathering begin! Some lucky finds this week.
