We really ought to have a MUD DIY mentorship program for this sort of thing.

Fair point, and I suppose you are right.

When I see posts of an out of work muddler being charged $2600 for a timing belt I know they could DIY for a fraction of that, I can't help but see a younger/poorer me and want to offer tools, time and help.

Then again, a younger version of me wouldn't be at a dealership. So, I suppose some DIY initiative is required to ensure good will and help does not become simply free labor and potential liability.
