So. . .in my ever-obessive need to find those 'things' I can't have, I stumbled across a company that widens factory steel wheels.

As with many of my first purchases, I pulled the trigger too early on a set of wheels (Fuel Revolvers; 18x9) and drum roll. . .wish I would've waited b/c I don't like them (or more specifically, I don't like the way they look on the FJ60).

Let's say I'm lucky enough to find a set of OEM 16's - what are you guys' opinion on widening them from their stock width to say a 8" or 9" width?

Take into consideration my 60 is/will be an asphalt queen sans the occasional gravel/fire road when camping in the 'rugged' south, lol.

Thanks-

Shane

ps - if you know of a set of 16's, I'm all ears.

IMHO, I love the steelies, and if you can get your hands on a set, then why not?

There's a guy in my neck of the woods that widens wheels as well. I've never seen any of his fail, and he's been around forever.
I don't know squat about anything else, but for a hard road and camping rig, I'd go for it.

There are stock 16" steel wheels that I think were for the 70 series but are unobtainium in the States. Beno posted a part # somewhere. Anybody wanna have a group import?

And I too, do not like the look of the widened steelies.

what's the back spacing on those 42601-60262-03?

Yes those fuel revolver 18x9s do not look right on a 60. I don't think anything above 16" looks right. I like my little 15s. There are plenty of nice rims at 16" out there that would look great just gotta get the proper backspacing.

Here are some pictures of the 16" FJ70 rims, no spacers with 255 / 85 r 16 toyo M55 tires. No problems with the clearance but left the stance a little narrow for me. The tires were too stiff for the weight of the truck and it did not ride very nice. I ended up going back to 15 x 8 with BFG all terrains, big ride / handling improvement.

Anyone know what it would cost to modify stock 60/62 wheels to 16 X 8? I guess they would cut the centers out and weld them into new outers? Any backspace possible. Any leads on who can do this? Stockton Wheel?

Beno, What is the Mud price on the 16 X 7? Available in chrome?

How do you like the m55's/how is the noise at highway speeds?

Like the bumpers as well, what kind are they?

Thread hijack. Are those steps on the corners above the tail lights? How about some specs on this.

The tires were noisy considering the pretty tame tread and the ride was rough. These are commercial rated tires really meant to go on something like an F350 dually. I experimented with tires a lot and found these to be overkill, high load rating = very stiff sidewall. The bumpers are home brew, fixed that pesky rust spot behind the rear wheel...

Thanks, interested in finding a good set of 255/85/r16s, that aren't too loud on the highway.
Bumpers look light and functional.

Stockton wheel is back in business after the untimely death of the original owner. They're able to take a 15" center and build 16" wheels with proper offset. Not cheap, but we wants what we wants...
