Has anyone tried mounting GM 16 inch 6 bolt steel rims to their hubs? Was there any problem with the offset of the centre of the rim clearing the caliper assembly on the front? I don't suppose there would be any issue at the rear with the drums.

you might need a 1/4" spacer.

"you might need a 1/4" spacer"

Is that based on first hand experience with the disc brake '60 model?

It is based on first hand experience with a disc brake '4x model which I think has the same gear...

watch out for the track-rod end rubber boot clearance against the rim.

40 serie ? 60, 70, 80 series ?

The key is the back spacing.

Put the rim without tire on the floor and measure the space between the floor and the heart of the rim... YOU NEED 3.5'' (40, 60, 70 serie (don't know for the 80 serie)). ... of course the center hole need to be 139.7mm. Some GM rims can fits, other no.

The problem is more the tie-rod than the caliper.

I have found that the 16X6 trailer rims fit very good on my BJ70 and BJ42 and you can get theme new for +/- 50$.
