Hello,

Thank you in advance for reading.

One of the 14mm bolts on my rear brake caliper is frozen to the pin. Turning the bolt 14mm bolt head rotates the entire caliper pin (the one with the 17mm hex on it).

If the pin is spinning in the caliper, do I need a new caliper, or could I heat off the 14mm?

Any other suggestions?

I'm no crack mechanic, but calipers aren't very expensive. Since it sounds like yours has some issues, and it's pretty important, I'd consider replacing it. That's just me. Let some folks who know chime in.

Do what @Trunk Monkey says...hold pin with open end wrench. Certainly don't replace caliper.

I doubt you will be able to find a thin headed open end wrench that will fit. You will most likely have to make your own, like I did. Just buy a single Craftsman wrench from Ace or Lowes and grind it down to fit. Don't let get too hot or it will loose hardness. Grind and dip in water. Grind and dip, grind and dip, etc.
