So I'm in the process of doing a coolant flush on my Ford 7.3L diesel and upon doing some research I discovered that I've been overlooking a very important detail. That would be the use of an SCA type of additve with the coolant to prevent major damage to the engine internals via cavitation. I know now that with all big diesels SCA is a necessity, but how about small diesels?

On my big diesels , there is also a coolent filter. On the smaller diesels TURBO CHARGED the SCA additive should be used. You probably know this, dont forget to BURP your 13B-T.

What do you you mean "burp"?

Getting the airlocks out of the cooling system. Easiest way is to fill it through the highest point which is the heater hose on the firewall.

I just fill it normally and the engines heat and cool cycle should suck any any coolant it needs from the overflow bottle if it has a good cap and a leak free system

yes, the 7.3 does have this concern, none of the Toyota diesels do...
Joe, relax...

BTW, i love that truck, perfect tow rig!!
