So I just got back from the mechanic and my motor is in a million pieces, taking the pump , turbo and injectors to get rebuilt tomorrow. Mechanic says the engine looks bloody phenomenal for half a million k's. As predicted the top ring land on each piston was flogged out but thats the worst of it "so far " ill be getting as many pics as possible to post up. Ill keep yas posted!

Sounds great! let the pictures flow :p

Its all happening..the engine is back from machine shop and slowly going back together. Crank linished and now is in and end float is crack on, happy times! New valves and guides, retainers etc

You do realise that you're ruining my nights sleep with all these pics of new shiny

Mechanic said engine was overall great condition for 500ks on her. Just the top ring land flogged out and valve stem seals gone. Pump and turbo were rebuilt
Kaf*c*ing ching!!! I didnt budget anywhere near enough for the pump rebuild..and I was quoted very wrong. Was 1300 more than the original quote. Was really hoping to have her back in time for October long weekend to run her in but no sense in pushing with this much money invested

Do you have any "as it was when stripped" fotos, I think they would also be of some interest.....

I note you specialise in "odd angle fotography" as well.... there doesn't seem to be one shot that has been taken from a normal perspective...... :flipoff2:

No I didnt bother getting any from the strip down- I use the phone app and take pics from my phone so they always come out stupid

Looks nice.

It never hurts to smooth out the transition areas in the head to improve flow. I know your head has been reassembled......

The castings are not that flash and there are some areas that can do with a clean up and removing sharp edges and turns.

Any pictures of the flogged out top ring?

Tim

Next time I go to the mechanic ill ask if he kept the 6 old ash trays. I was happy to see the rings gone, answered a few questions about the oil burning

Nice pics!

Those pistons looks about what i would expect at 500 000km, crankshaft bearings look almost pristine which is bit surprising but atleast we can fairly say that 2H series of engines doesnt suffer from the BEB problems as do the later engines...

Did u see the one with the big hole in it

Well yeah, besides that one with "slight" peeling on it ;) But still, they look remarkably good considering they have half a million kilometers on them...
