12ht oil filter loose

So I have had an oil leak for a month or so. Nothing serious. I did an oil change and found the oil filter loose. Not like it was gonna fall off but had no resistance when I removed it. Which was kinda nice becuase is so so easy to get off haha..

But when I removed it the piece that the oil filter screws into the came off with the filter. Sorry I don't know the correct term for it.. it's theaded on both ends. It was pretty tight on the filter needed a wrench to remove it.

I just installed it as tight as I could by hand (on the engine side) and then tightened the filter a little extra this time.. I didn't have a socket big enough to tighten it down more..

So that threaded adapter that attaches the oil filter to the filter housing came loose on the housing side and came out with the filter? I've never heard of that before! I wonder if you should be using some sort of loktite when you reassemble so it doesn't happen again? The housing isn't cracked or something like that?

Haha u explained that so much better... But yea came off with the filter. Nothing looked damaged at all on the housing. I took it for a spin for about 20 minutes and everything was tight.. I'll just keep and eye on it for the time being.. hopefully it's good to go .

I would be pulling the filter and borrowing a socket to torque if to spec with some red loktite. I could not drive the truck as would be thinking it’s backing out and just about to dump the oil

I did just that.. hopefully it doesn't happened again if it does I'll be getting a new housing.

In my rig the filter likes to back off (Wix), but I have never had that threaded piece come off! That's crazy, now I'm nervous for my rig! Lol

That last filter was a napa gold filter.. I grabbed a few oem ones before I left Japan which is what I put on it this time.. I'm just glad the oil leak was a simple fix haha..

I'll post an update after 1000km or if it gets loose again.

NAPA Gold = Wix, should be good filters, I don't expect that's the issue.
