The vdj v8 series (vdj76,78,79) up to 2017 use the same H150/151 as the 80/105 series, just with a different length input shaft. The H152 (released in 2017 IIRC) is the “same” but a different 2nd and 5th gear ratio. The v8 really needs a longer 5th so a lot of guys are swapping in a new h152 into their vdj76,78,79 series and selling the old box for cheap. You can either buy a new input shaft (cira $300) or use one out of a 80 series.

But yeah, Toyota did a bunch of improvements over the years so try and get a late model one.

Fair enough, not sure about the rest of the world. But in aus it wasn’t all vdj’S, only recent years (2017 I believe).

Ja, and don't be too supprised if Aus run short of spares for the H152. Our local gearbox guru's are buying up the 152 lay shafts, and 2nd and 5 gears and converting the H150 boxes. It works well, and keeps the whole shebang Toyota .

I have a 150 box, but with an HZ driving it, no ways would the 5th gear work at all. But, if there is a HD in my future??????
