Ok I am knocking out issues as they come, just like the childhhod game. I have just converted my 88' fj62 to diesel 12ht and runs like a top. I have yet to hook up my glow screen. the plan is to do that tonight, however I have several questions and my seaches have failed to bring the answer.
I am doing a manual momentary switch with a heavy duty relay.
My motor was 24V in the picture in the manual page ST9 there is one black wire on the left pole for 12v and for 24v there are two black left Red right pole. and a green wire off the top on the left pole.
Ok so the other night I fried that wire.
Do i have to disconnect the right side or half od the screen to feed it 12v?
For power I used the ingition wire off the gas coil it is live when the key is turned to acs. Am I on the right path? Any help would be great because its bloody cold out.

This is what I done and no problems 18 months later. My glowing does take a bit longer than the factory set up on my other cruiser and I should check the voltage or it could be the cheap glow plugs:D.
However a qualified auto electricain recommended it to me so the power source should be reliable.
Mine works when the red lights come on,Ive never tried it on accessories.
Cant answer the other questions though.

Ill take a stab in the dark,I seem to remember someone else saying they used 24v power on a 12v glowscreen and it was ok ,but I think you are doing the opposite??
The 12HT I had started fine without a working glowscreen in warmer climes of course

Rosco,
Thank you for the feed back. regarding power source. I am going to hook the rest up tonight and with good luck I'll have a winner.

Hey Johnny,

Sounds like you are still having a few issues. Let me know if there is anything i can do to help.

Please keep us posted.

Goat,
How did you wire your intake heater? If I remember correctly you had a prior 24V motor? Everthing else is running great.

You're right. I did have a 24V motor. The glowscreen had been rigged by a PO to use only one of the two screens. I don't know why, since both of the actual screens work just fine. I have to assume that he had some other electrical problem.

I think I mentioned in one of the missing emails that you would need to connect another wire to the unused terminal (the one disconnected by the PO). Looking at the FSM, it appears that the factory setup was able to energise the two screens separately. Dunno why they would.

Anyway, the way I had it wired was the way I got it. It just used one screen. Seemed to work OK, but I would hesitate to do that with a 24V setup.

What I would do - I would wire your screens so that they are in series with one power relay and one dash switch. In other words, the same switch powers both screens. As I recall there was a metal shunt on one side of the aluminum glowscreen assembly that connected the two screens together at one end forming a common terminal so that there were three terminals all together. I would disconnect the wire from the common terminal and connect wires to each of the single terminals on the other side. This *should* put the screens in series. Just connect one terminal to +24V and the other to a good ground.

You should study the glowscreen assembly to confirm that my memory is correct and that I'm not smoking crack.

Cheers!
