Ahoy mates :)

been thinking about a diesel for my Fj-55, I was thinking about a 3B but think it´s too lacking in the power department so, I´m gonna try to land me a 12H with 5spd box and T-case from a 60.

I was just wondering how much of a hazzle getting it in would be, are the frames equally wide? gearbox positition? etc. I will ofc measure it up when I get a good motor, just wanted to get some info ahead of time :)

if anyone has any idea how a swap like this would go please respond

Are you going to get an HJ61 for the swap? It would have all the bits and pieces needed.

The 12ht is an inline so not overly wide. Think if an engine fits a 60, would it fit a 55? How much wider is a 60 frame rails? I dunno.

A 1hz is a more common engine. How about finding one of those. Add a turbo and the power is similar.

Nice thing about the 1hz is its a current engine used in mining in Canada. And dealer parts are a call away. Where as the 12h-t is Japan away.

If I was to convert a 60/40/55 model I think I would go with a 1hz. But thats just my wish list. A 80 series I would go with a 1hd-t.

go for the 12HT, easy swap and lots of power. decent on fuel too...
post up the conversion photos and write up... i am sure most of us have dreamt about a diesel 55 over the years...

It hasnt been conclusively proven they didnt exist:grinpimp:

Sounds like a great project and one that would have us all drooling.
I dont know much about 55 series but I know others have massaged the 12HT into 45 series without too many headaches.

.

LOL!! nor has it been proven they have...
if they did from the factory there would be a code for them...no?

I´ll try to land me a complete 60 so I´ll have all the "stuff" needed :)

is the 2H alot worse than the 12H? I assume turbo´ed

I think with the 12HT you could wind up the turbo more often and for longer periods.

well just looked at a 60 cruiser, it has a 2H with 120K miles on it, and auto tranny, BUT the guy has a H55 5 speed (+Tcase) and a broken 12H which he´s willing to sell with the car. the axles are already sold so I´won´t be paying for stuff I don´t need :)

I also know about a 12H, but it has 250K miles on it and not in good shape :S

...decisions decisions :P

If the price is right take it. Install the 2H and rebuild the 12HT as funds and time become available;)
When the 12HT is ready it fit straight into the 2H position.
