Some posts say yes, others say no, that the window & regulator need to be removed when replacing the front pass window motor. Mine is 2003 LandCruiser. I was planning to tape window closed and pop out motor. Does regulator have spring, and will it snap - dangerous? (Many years ago as a teenager, worked on my 1983 Ford Bronco, took the tailgate window motor out (large window), and almost lost my hand when the spring snapped.) Thank you.

It would be a total PITA to try and replace the motor w/o removing the regulator.
No worries about springs & tension. Pretty straightforward to exchange the motor.
Mine's a 98 and only the driver's window has the auto open/close. I know the newer models w/ auto open/close with all the windows require some additional steps to re-sync the auto function.
