Hi, first off wanted to introduce myself as a new member!

I have loved Land Cruiser's since I was a kid and have been the proud owner of an immaculate 06 Land Cruiser for about a year now!

My only complaint/ problem is that where the 60/40 split back seat splits the seat shimmies and shakes side to side over the smallest bumps or at highway speeds.

Anyone else encountered this problem?

Thanks!

I have a 2003 with 93k miles and its a rattle trap!
I removed my 3rd row seats as well as the 3rd row seat belts and mounting points and got rid of a bunch of rattles
the cargo area plastic doors to the little storage areas also make noise
the latch points on the floor are what's rattling on the 2nd row
even my front passenger seat shimmies and rattles when empty
I think the 2nd row grab handles also rattle
and anything loose in the middle arm rest console will be noticeable also

the 100 is disappointing in this regard
my old 1999 4runner with 242k had ZERO rattles

go around the entire vehicle with a large Phillips head and check all the bolts

also check the latch on the hatch and tailgate, mine was way loose

Have you found that tightening the latch points and grab handles has helped eliminate some of the shaking and rattling?

My 2nd row seat shakes and shimmies and squeaks also.

It does it less after some vinyl and leather treatment. The only other fix I have that works great is stuffing a rag or piece of cloth between the seats tightly.

My old FJ62 shook the back seat as well, so I guess it is common among these.

Just spent six hours in my '00 100 and the back 60% seat rattled the whole time.

My rear passenger door squeaks like a beast on the highway. I also get the 60/40 seat noise, but it's nothing compared to the door.

I keep threatening to take it apart, but I never feel like it when I get home.

Well I just tightened all the screws on the back seat and no improvement... maybe a little placebo effect but the shaking and noise is still there.

There has got to be a way to fix this, most suv's have a 60/40 split rear seat and non that I know of get as loose as the LC seat. Its driving me crazy!

If the latch points: In my 91 & 92 VW GLi, we used to shrink wrap the door posts to stop the shake and tin can noise when closing. It might worth it to try that on the latching mechanisms for the 2nd row. Shrink wrap the mount in the floor. Can't recall the shape of the latch on the seat, that could work too. Probably need the adhesive kind as you can't get a solid piece in place. Or electrical tape after shrink to hold in place?

I don't think I have those rattles in my 2000, but am going to look at doing this tonight.

Hopes that helps!

Sorry, resurrecting an old thread here. I think I've solved my rear seat rattle by adding some foam tape to hinge and reseating the plastic seat hinge covers. Before I could shake the seat with my hand and reproduce the rattle at will. After applying the foam tape to the outside of the hinges and reinstalling the plastic covers the rattles are gone.

Hello jay470, any chance of a picture to see what you did? this rattle has been driving me crazy

@Suraj Dhanani - I'll post a few pix tomorrow but it's very simple. Remove the plastic covers from rear anchor points on the seat (they should pop right off) then apply foam tape to either side of the metal bracket nearest the rear most portion of the bracket. Reattach the plastic covers check for rattle, apply more foam tape if the rattle persists. My application did not require much maybe 2" of foam tape on either side of the metal bracket bent around the bracket so it covers the front and both sides of each leg.

Finally got around to checking out my second-row seat vibration and discovered the actual locking mechanism that folds up into he seat bottom as the seat flips forward is loose compared to the other seat. On the 60% side, both locks are virtually unlovable, while on the 40% lock there's some lateral play with the mechanism. There doesn't appear to be a way to tighten the assembly, so I'm not sure if it came this way when new or what, but it seems obvious that this is the problem.

I will find a way to fix this, even if it means replacing the entire seat. More to come...

01 here and I have this same problem especially on the second row passenger folding seat, dives me nuts sometimes.

I think most of my rattling is happening because the seat strap is not tight as I have to tighten it all the time and it gets lose again. I have ordered Cam buckle straps from aliexpress to keep it tight. I'll report back how they work when they arrive.

'06 LC here and I have the same 2nd row seat rattle. I thought it was the suspension at first but it is very noticeable and very loud over big bumps so it has to be inside. I also have a factory luggage rack on mine and I tightened up all of the cross bars last night so I hope that improves things. My AHC is not functioning so I'll definitely do a de-rattle session on the LC once I get that system functioning again. I am hoping the rattles will diminish once the AHC is doing it's job. One reason I bought the LC was because I was tired of all the rattles in my 1997 F350 DRW which was my DD. The LC is way quieter than the F350 but not completely silent.

Okay guys here's my report I got the CAM buckle's and they are working great. the stay tight. There's still a little wiggle but i dont want to kill the hand hold thingi by making it too tight. But no more rattle of the seats. My only issue is that the only way i got it secure is getting the cam buckle all around the seat as you will see in the pic. Any other suggestions on how to secure it down?

In general, there are no rattles in my 01 LX; however, the photo reminds me of one, but on the opposite seat. On the top rear corner (hinge) of the seat that is touching the seat belt, there is a rattle that can be annoying. Apparently something pushed on the seat so hard that it caused the hinge to contact the back pillar, causing the cardboard? to crack under the surface. As this moves back and forth when the seat is touching it, noise is created. I used a piece of foam (about 1/2 inch thick from a shipping container) between the seat and pillar to stop transference of vibration, thus stopping the noise. A towel was not effective, allowing the vibrations from the seat hinge to transfer to the damaged spot on the pillar panel, resulting in noise). The spot on the pillar is not noticed by looking at it, but when touching the spot, the area gives way under pressure. In contrast, the other side which has no damage in the pillar, does not cause any noise when the seat is strapped up to the side.

I just pull them out set them in the garage. If I think I might need them I put them in and run them in the down position with the backs folded flat like a table. If I need to haul cargo with them in I put cardboard or a moving blanket over them and stack on them.

The 60/40 second row is where my rattle is. My short term solution is just folding the 40% (passenger side) down so the leather isn't rubbing against the 60 side. As a more permanent solution I'm going to consult an auto upholstery shop when they swap out my driver's bottom cushion with a new OEM pad.
