So I don't know if this has ever been done before, but I've managed to get a Warn 8274 winch in my Slee bumper on my 80. I'm sure there are some 80's with an 8274 (aren't there?) but I've never seen it since it probably requires cutting items for it to fit. And lately, I've not been afraid to cut items on my wagon (it's getting scary).
First pic shows final fitment. I still have to touch up some things and route cable correctly and install the passenger side fog light tab in a new place but this is ultimately the final result. The light tab had to go since it was prohibiting spooling. Also the bumper needed slight trimming for the winch to mount flush to the bumper.
The second pic shows where I cut to make this fit. Never once did I cringed when I cut so I knew this was meant to be. In the pic, the center support looks like it didn't need to be cut but it is actually less than an inch from the winch so it fits perfect. I'm also very pleased with the grill and how easy it was to fit back on. Notice where I left plenty of room to pull the clutch knob.

I got this winch from a friend for a "friend" price so it was a no brainer. Plus all I hear is that "the 8274 is the best winch Warn ever made", plus when it used to be on his cruiser, it got me out of trouble on more than one occasion. Well now I can return the favor:flipoff2:

Thoughts?....

Looks good.

I just had an 8274 apart, and it's definitely the best made Warn-lots of beefy gears in the reduction box. Built like a Land Cruiser.

Since you asked-I know of at least one other 80 with an 8274 on a custom bumper.

I shoehorned my old 8274 into my ARB noncommercial bar. I have not had the chance to unstick myself yet only others ;.

On my Warn/ARB Outback Challenge video from a few years ago iirc there were 19 out of 21 vehicles running 8274's. Those 4dr Nissan GQ's have to weigh as much as an 80.

Looks great!

Thanks for the comments!
I might also add that, it's not "ready to roll" in these pics and yes there is a bolt missing if anyone caught that. I have yet to go get an extra square nut for the back. Also the clutch handled was bent so it's stuck in the engaged position. I'll be repairing that as well.

It seems odd to be so happy about a 8K lb winch on a 6K lb wagon, but like I say this winch has already pulled me up AND out of nasty spots. Now it's just on my wagon instead of someone else's.

 Eric,
Put some Masterpull synthetic line in that bad boy for some extra utility/insurance/*BLING*!!!!!! Just kidding but if i do remember correctly nicks cable did have some bends and frays in it so it might not be a bad idea. BTW Mark had a good source for masterpull line as he put some on his 4runner before he sold it and got a pretty good deal on the stuff.

There was a bend that I will keep an eye on, I will be taking care of it (re-pulling after every ride I use it). There is one single wire that was broken within the first few feet (probably what you remember) it's not even frayed beyond the place it's cut <3mm. I filed it down as to not snag, but will keep an eye on it.
I've had a few people look at it already, no one seems to think that I should scrap the cable yet as they said they would all use it without hesitation, but just to watch it.

Just got around to doing the same with Junk's old Slee front bumper.

Turned out great, now my 40 is jealous that I stole the winch off it:grinpimp:
