Hey guys, my dad's 80 started making strange noises a while ago. When driving every once in a while the front left corner start making a really ugle vibrating sound, sort of like the brake is trying to grab a hole, except it's just bouncing off. Think of it as trying to shove a piece of really hard rubber into a grinder, how it would just sort of bounce a lot. That's the only way that I can explain it. Mechanic thinks it might have something to do with the ABS. Any suggestions?

Classic dry spindle bushing. Do a search here on that in the body of posts and you'll find an evening's reading. Can anyone think of a way to get lube in there without pulling the spindle off? Any lube would help to prevent damage for a week or so. Wonder if the truck were jacked up with the dry side high and a bit of dripping down the axle stub while hand turning it would get some oil in there. This would prevent damage for a while.

Obviously a proper birf repack is going to do it as well.

Doug,
You've seen this before.

Not particularly elegant but it works.

B - Great tool! That's an excellent fab - why did you make it?

I made it to lube the spindle bushing. :D

Copper pieces came from Lowes, hub nut was a spare, grease zirk from NAPA. About 15 minutes to put the pieces together and then let the JB Weld harden overnight.

The idea came from C-Dan. He told me he had seen his techs use a similar DIY tool for lubing the spindle bushing. It would be better if you could weld it but I wasn't paying to have someone weld it for me. The JB is doing a great job and it's not a tool you'll use very often.

do you know exactly what pipe thread you got?

Read post #6 carefully, and closely examine the photos. The gray material is JB Weld. There is no threaded pipe.

Did anybody ever find out if we could get the hollow birfs from the mines that had the Zerk built in?
