Here's a few photos of areas of the FJ45LV I'm glad I didn't know about when I drove it home!

The brake hose was "patched with electrical tape, the brake line was welded/brazed in several places and the spring pin isn't even bolted in (not to mention the wrong one)!

It's good I plan on tearing the FJ45LV apart COMPLETELY. I've already found a steering box full of grease and the adjusting shims laying in the bottom in a mangled pile, a rubber cork for the front axle drain plug and the drive shafts were each held on by two bolts at each end and the list goes on!

I crashed my Chevy on the way home the day I bought it. Brakes went out, no parking brake....whoops!

Now I tow them home and never expect to drive them until I can at least go though the important parts.

This may have been your first clue....tassels on the pedals are the coolest :D

Yep, that should have said everything! Actually, it likely is safer to drive it than to try towing especially in Guatemala City. I was REALLY gentle when I drove it. Even then it overheated due to the busted altenator mount which caused the belt to jump off. I ended up towing it the last 1/2 mile or so with a tow strap behind the '60.

My 67 FJ45 had that same brazed in brake line patch. makes me think its factory possibly? I think it was near the tranny along the frame rail. I guess the brazing ruined what ever plating was on the tube cause mine rusted out right there.

There's actually a couple of patches like that in the brake lines. One at the front frame rail where the grille is and one on the passenger side back near the firewall. The brake lines will all be redone anyways as I'm going to put disc brakes on the front.

Todays find.... a wooden diff drain plug!!! We tried pulling it out as it looked like the bolt head was all messed up but we couldn't get a hold of it, then we drilled it for a tap and it felt like rubber but when we finally got it out it was wood!!!

I shouldn't be surprised 'cause one side of the front axle has the correct highly tapered bearings while the other side had the more common bearing taper (not correct for the front knuckle though).
