The decision has been made, I will be running the 17" steel spare wheels from a Toyota Tundra soon. If you missed my post some time back, they are similar in appearence to the past model wheel style of the classic FJ40 and FJ55.

The issue with running the Tundra wheels is the backspacing, which is 5". Although this will fit the cruiser, it narrows the track 1"/25.4mm over the stock 4.5" back spacing. Fortunately, the design of the wheel allows the center to moved in about 3/4" or 19mm... 4.25" of backspacing will do quite well!

The modified wheel....

The stamped center with 4 slots and 4 welds looks close, the 12 holes do throw it off a bit. I have been considering filling those.

The last decision is color... black, dark grey, light grey.... just curious what folks think. I'm leaning towards black... maybe dark grey.

Update... well the trial wheel has received a coat of black paint and a Mickey Thompson Baja Radial Claw 37/13.5R17(3 ply sidewall)... time for some sheet metal removal!?

Hub cap? :D

Steel wheels always look better to me in darker colors, so I'd be most partial to black 1st, dark grey 2nd.

I'm not sure if the 12 holes would bother me a whole lot. The wheels look pretty sweet as is!

I vote for grey to dark grey. Black steel wheels look to me like you had a flat tire.

I like the grey that matches the old Cruiser rims, I've never liked black rims on any Cruiser.

Powder coated .. gunmetal grey .

TY

PS: Radd , damn you do nice work !

I like the white ones on the left, only in dark grey. I wish I could find some 16x8 to fit my LC.

I vote for one of each color - one red, one brown, one green, one yellow and the spare blue.

Otherwise, all black.

Radd, how much are those spaced? I've got some Sequoia steelies I'm putting on my 40...and need 1-1.5" spacers...

Back spacing was all wrong at 4.75, after opening the box and measring the back spacing my toyota guys were not looking forward to returing them.

Took them back and they fit, the larger diameter allowed it to clear, plus the 285s only rub on full turn right. Small adjustment and it works great.

I really was pleased how they stayed inside the trucks wheel wells.

Thanks Tyler....

More eye candy for you diesel folk.

Oh and I like the Tundra rims if they were painted grey also.

Keep an eye on ebay for those stock 16" steel units... you can snag new take offs and low mileage wheels on there cheap!! Around $100 - $200 per set.

Boingggggg!!! Awesome.

Although I think I might like them better without the hubcap. More militaristic.

Could be the low light, though.

Black, just plain old black.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but i was noticing the red wheels that evernham racing is running on their dodge nascar cars (ie. Casey Kane, jeremy mayfield ect...). THey might look cool on the right colored truck. Any photoshopers out there wanna change the color of the black rock crawler wheels to red and post em' up to see what they look like? Please....?

Don't like, but whatever floats yer boat....

(Although, it does kinda look similar to the S.A. expedition cruisers)

hmmm. i like the yellow.
