History: When I bought my '93 I had the entire front rebuilt by a Cruiser expert in Phoenix. Brad did an awesome job. The thing drove like new.

A year later, the front diff gasket was leaking and needed to be replaced. Toyota pulled the axles, left them half out hanging in the air while they pulled the front diff, then reassembled. Imediately we experienced noises and thumps from the front pass side. They pulled the axles again, replaced a bearing inside (for free) and reassembled.

Current (months later): After I drive the thing for several miles we hear a sound from the front that repeats itself as the wheels turn. Don't laugh now, but it sounds like a higher-pitched: SWEEE SWEEE SWEEE SWEEE SWEEE
It won't sound when cold. The longer you drive the louder it gets though it's not a LOUD sound. It is quite noticeable and irritating though.

Thoughts?

seach for "dry spindle" , might be your problem

Second the dry spindle bushing.

If the doughheads left the axle shafts swinging in the breeze I would also replace the inner seals. (90310-35010 x2)

Yikes. Did that search. I have a lot of things to check. The thing drives and rides fine. There are not other symptoms. I'll bet the reassembled it wrong again.

Sometimes search can be a bad thing.

What bearing did they replace? How far did they go into the axle to replace this bearing? these might be good questions to answer before a diagnosis is made. later robbie

You'll like this dumb answer: It was that brass/yellowish ring inside there they replaced. It had heated up and was discolored. See pic:

That's the spindle bushing. Got to love having others do the work for you. My first axle job was by someone else as I had gears installed at the same time. They forgot about cleaning/lubing my bushing.

Thank you for reiterating why I do all my own work on my vehicle. :D

That sucks John, why do you need the '93 again? You have the '01!! :flipoff2:

I hope they replaced the bif as well. The bushing is stuck to it in this photo. If they re-used the birf I would not be surprised by your new noise. In addidion, it appears that they did not use molly grease in the knuckles.

Lovely. Lovely Dan. Oh what I may have to look forward to. Hey, I have several important wheeling trips coming up. Would you be worried? J

Naa, I wouldn't say that. I've done some 'work' on mine that has been more harmful than beneficial. Always a learning experience, either you learn how to do it right, or learn how not to do it. :D Lucky for me I haven't made any $$$ mistakes yet, atleast not while working on it. I've beatup lots of other things while wheeling that have not been my best moments...a/c, exhaust, door, etc..
