I am mounting a t3 turbo on a 13bt manifold using an adapter.

How do you adjust or turn the turbo housing to align it with the 3b air inlet.

It currently points down toward the top of the engine. (pic 1)

I removed 6 bolts and three plates, but it wouldn't budge. (pic 2)

Do these bolts need to be removed? (pic 3)

Thanks for the help in advance.

Peace,

Mel

the outer housing will rotate on that finned inner part of the turbo. Just above the id plate is where they come together. Where your finger is in the 2nd pic

It probably wouuldn't budge because there is a gasket between the two. IMHO instead of trying to rotate it I would see if you could tab the compressor housing off and hopefully preserving the gasket and then put it back on where you want it rotated. I rebuilt my garrett with new bearings and that gasket came as part of the kit. I'm sure you could get a new one too fairly easily.

Yup, you should be able to loosen off the "plate" your finger is on in the third pick, and then just rotate the housing to suit you...
Also you might be able to only turn the housing a 1/4 turn at a time from the looks of it...

So I should remove the bolts in pic three, turn the housing and reinstall them?

you going to want to rotate that one too due to where your oil inlet is. The oil drain is gravity released so you want that oil inlet/outlet vertical with the ground so the oil drains out without pooling. Rotating the exhaust housing was a biotch on mine. One of the reasons I fully disassembled mine. The compressor side was easier on mine. I rotated both to get a fixed point on my position during mockup in my pics.

Will pb blaster damage the gasket?

hard to say... IIRC mine was ruined once I took it off. It's large and very thin plus it's been heated a cooled for years. Mine stuck in a few spots and was very hard. IMHO you'll probably have to buy a new one. You should be able to get one from mercedes or volvo pretty cheap. You'll want a good gasket though since that is the compressor side. the bolts you'll want to put some tape on or rtv too so the bolt threads don't leak air out. On the exhaust side mine was very tight and the cast housing on the cast housing doesn't rotate easily due to how it goes together being tapered to each other. At least that is how my volvo t3 was.. HTH

Here is roughly what your looking at. http://www.gpopshop.com/garrettt3kits.html

your cold side housing should rotate up with all the clamp bolts out. Just grab it and rotate.

I had to align my turbo too.

nice jerry, Did the gasket stay in one piece?

I got it all apart and called it a night.

I haven't attempted to remove the gasket yet.

From the looks of it, I doubt I will be able to reuse the it..... we will see.
