Who's the local (Socal) wrenching expert?

I'm still pecking away at my PM's and I've got some bigger jobs coming up. Belts, u-joints, and birfs. I can most likely do the belts, but I'm gonna need some help (driveway/tools/etc) from someone more experienced.

Anyone willing to lend a hand, a driveway, tools, etc..

Oh and I'm wondering if someone has a welder and some cutting tools.

Where are you located? PM me, I am by no means an expert but am always willing to lend a hand, especially on the birfs. Never done them myself and am always willing to try it on someone else vehicle before my own.:D LOL!

Southern L.A. County/Orange County.

I've inquired (to Cdan) about the parts for the birf job and some other parts as well. I'll probably end up doing the birfs within a month.

If you have the space and some tools, It would be much appreciated, even if you're there just to watch. Just about everyone should know more about 80's more than me. It's my first 4x4 and 80, and I've only have it since the beginning of the summer.

There's a new guy, also from L.A. that needs his birfs done, Dancruiser. He seems more knowledgeable about cruisers so he might join the party too.

I may join you guys. I've never changed a birf before, but I'm willing to help.

I'll may need to do mine one of these days, and I'd like to learn. It can't be that difficult if people do them on the trail  ;)

Where are you at in LA/OC...everything you've listed requires no "expert" just some time, an FSM, and a few :beer::beer:.

Off the 91.

Most of you guys are more experienced than me

I've noticed that simple jobs gets more complicated with me.

You end up breaking this or that.

Plus I'm low on wrenching room and the only tools I have are the basic wrenches, socket set, and BFH. I've got the PDF FSM and I've PM'd CDan about parts, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

MK, we were all at one point in inexperienced and through the self learning we've attained the knowledge. You don't really need more that what you've stated in terms of tools a brass or rubber hammer would be helpful.

If there is a location I can try and make it out, but I'd just do a little homework and read through the FSM a few times and then attack the task (one at a time). You have the board for "real time support" and I'm sure anyone from so cal can provide phone tech support. let me know if you'd like my number.

I would call C'dan for the parts much more efficient.

Best to call him at American Toyota extension 8. He is very busy and has a hard time answering PMs in my expereince. If you leave a message he will call you back but have your parts list ready he works fast. ;)

I agree with Sam you can get good help and it is all doable by an inexperienced wrencher. I would be happy to give you my number as well in case you need some real time help. Good luck

Mo - if you're up to it some weekend, I've had the parts for the birf job sitting in my garage for a couple of months now.

Give me a call Brent and we can set something up.

Will do at some point. Scouts and a garage project have me booked thru 10/14, but some time after that would be great.

I think I've got all the tools, including the hub socket, outside of the scale necessary to set the pretension and the necessary lubricants.

No worries, just finished mine so I have everything you don't have. ;)

best to have your vin # handy for him too so he can dial you in to your exact needs.

:cheers:cliff

Dan only needs your vin for a key. For most everything else, Dan has the Landcruiser parts list, by part number, MSRP and Mud price memorized! :D

Brent & Mo, do you think I can join you guys on the Birf job?

Doesn't bother me at all and I am sure Brent won't mind. I will make sure to post it in So Cal 80's beforehand so all interested parties can swing by.

Bluto asked to watch as well. You're going to be a star Mo.

Bluto - clear your pm box. Tried to respond to you, but you're full.

I don't know about a star, I am just a guy that loves Toyotas and helping others who do. :D

Hey, I've done my birfs and would love to show you guys how an OCD shadetree mechanic does things!:flipoff2:

I've got all the tools so if were talkin' multiple trucks wrenching, we can do it NASCAR style:grinpimp:

I'll volunteer my yard for the wrench site, if you don't mind working on grass! (No, Mo that's not what I meant) We can fit 10-15 trucks back there.

First were gonna need Jack (some Jack, not ajack-use whatever you want on your truck) then we'll need about 10 pizzas, 100 cans of degreaser, 30 rolls of paper towels, 10 boxes of gloves - wait scratch that, only need a handfull of gloves - I'm just watching. Oh and ice cream, Haagen Daz is good, but Ben 'n' Jerry's. . . . ahhhhgg (insert Homer drooling clip here).

Once all of these basic needs are met, it should only take you. . . uh, wait - I've got Pizza, Jack and Ice Cream - you guys take all the time you need;p

I can see it now (wavy blurred image slowly comes into focus):

SCENE I: Amidst a field of Land Cruisers
Boyd: (shouting through mouthfuls of ice cream) "Brent! Do you call that CLEAN?! I want you to take it apart again! This time get ALL the old grease out!!! You're not leaving until you do it RIGHT! (or when I run out of ice cream)"

SCENE II: Fast forward 10 minutes, or 5 Jack and PEPSIs (no coke - don't even get me started:D) whichever comes first.
Boyd: (slightly slurred) "I cahn't behlieve you guys are still herere! Whhat'ss tahking yous so long! Good dog Tillie, get the ball. Come on, get the ball. Why the heck iss Brent doooing hisss a sechond time? I don't hafh allll day!! HEY!! Somebody betther makhe mhe ahnother cock tail; I'm gonna go whatch some TV."

SCENE III: In the background are several Cruisers doing doughnuts on the grass; Tillie dog stands proudly next to Mo as he shouts to the drivers.
Mo: "I told you the clicking would stop! Now make turns to the left; you have to make sure the grease gets spread through the entire bell!
Boyd: Stumbling onto the patio; "What are you guys doing here, I thought we were doing birfs next weekend!"

Still interested? Let's set a date! I'll bring the Jack, you guys bring the pizza, ice cream, degreaser, gloves and Pepsi.
