Ok, this issue just popped up today. I go to start the LC, it turns over fine, starts and then immediately dies....
it is a 98 -

any ideas???

I guess i could get a a code thingy and find out what it is throwing....

mine has been doing that recently, like its struggles to stay started n just dies out. It only is doing it in the cold.

LOL....

Could be your TPS/APPS

I belive its gets affected in cold weather!

I had to replace those parts, since the code came up!

my trucks not throwing any CELs. Never brought it to lexus bc ied have to wait over a day for them to figure out whats wrong...but they said over the phone it might be the TPS/APPS. Guess ill have to look into it soon before the warranty is up.

I'd guess some kind of fuel problem. Is your gas tank full? Condensation in the fuel tank (ie, water in the fuel?)?

Mine does it every once in awhile. No codes.

This occurred on my 1998 LX470 and it was the spark plugs needed replacing. If there is too much plug gap, you can wear out the individual coils.

After I replaced my spark plugs, it stopped doing it for about 8k miles. Now it does it again, occasionally (same as before).

Open the safe

anyone know the cost on changing out the TPS/APPS????

Run a thread search. I know my APPS cost about $650+/- to replace and clean out the throttle body. While you are in there, you should service the starter too. I got hit with that bill separately. TPS is reachable without disassembling the top half of the motor, so it should be incrementally cheaper to replace.

hummm, maybe i will try to replace plugs first. They were replaced only 30K ago......................lol.

the starter has been replaced so i doubt i want to go back in...

Plugs should be good for 120K miles. Pay to have if checked out should be cheaper then throwing parts at it.

Shouldn't take much effort to check your plugs on your own. If they are fouled, then there are problems in the fuel/air delivery system that need a mechanic.

personally i dont think it is the plugs.....i've had an intermittent issue with no throttle body response.......it was the TPS, but it hasn't acted up in a long time.....

so my guess - it is the TPS

here's another question

if my starter was going out but i kept turning it over will that foul the plugs?? I am thinking now that it starts then dies it is throwing a lot of fuel in the cylenders so it might be a good idea to change out anyway.

I've never changed the plugs on a 100......how hard is it??

update.

I changed out my plugs - the old ones were not in the greatest of shape. pretty much started right up.....YIPPIE....

although, as i was going down the road for a test drive the throttle response shut down - idling, but no power. Shut it off and started it back up and it was fine. I think it is time to replace the TPS....

Check your codes - sounds like it could be the APPS.
