***SOLD*** 1989 FJ62 in NC
Congrats, Greg!
Where it's been... Truck started service in AZ (has a Ft. Huachuca sticker on bumper), then moved to VA for a short time before I bought it in July 2005 w. 198K miles (now has 202K). PO installed tranny cooler, OME med/heavy lift, front/rear 2" receivers, BFG 32x11.5" KOs, tint, cruise, Viper alarm, Optima red top, new front windsheild, shifter bushings. I installed OME steering damper and Scion radio/CD, rebuilt the starter contacts, installed new water pump w. all front hoses and belts.
Why I'm selling.... I have endured over a year of "observations" about the raw manliness of this cruiser... "It rides too bumpy" "Ooof! Sure is hard to get in this thing!" "Sure doesn't drive like my Honda..." "What's with this tan & brown striped fabric?" "Will this thing roll over?" "I like the rounder Land Cruisers better." Since the 16 yo daughter is going to be the primary driver, I decided to keep the peace and get a tamer stock '94 FZJ80 which I found last week. So, the raw testosterone of the FJ62 will be better off with someone who will actually take it on the trail where it belongs.
Here's the full rundown...
Paint/Exterior:
- Paint overall is in good condition, a little faded from AZ sun, mainly on hood and right side for some reason
- No rust anywhere on body or chassis. Only rust is on the wiper arms.
- There is a scratch on driver's door from PO, not very deep.
- There is a "thumbprint" above the driver door handle from PO, exactly where you put your thumb when you open the door, I speculate it was from brake fluid residue.
- Front bumper has a small dent that you can see in one of the pics.
- Rear tailgate has a small dent (2" across, very shallow) that is difficult to see in pics
- Tint on all windows exc. windsheild, some starting to peel on rear pass windows.
- New front windshield (PO)
- The seals around both front marker lights have self-destructed (changed from pliable rubber to brittle crumbs), I will order from cdan and replace.
- Snake blinders intact, no rust in rocker panels
Drivetrain/suspension:
- OME med/heavy w. front stabilizer
- Many pics provided of the underneath side so you could get a feel for leaks, etc. Front diff is greasy from slow oil from leak around right side of engine which I've never tried to isolate as it is not significant, and truck does not leave spots on my driveway.
- Rear main seal seems to be leaking a little as you can see in pics but it is very minimal. (My 93 300ZX rear main seal is leaking more than the cruiser is.)
- Tranny cooler installed by PO
- I have used 4WD very seldom (getting out of a muddy yard once) and lock the front hubs occasionally just to give them some exercise but have never wheeled the truck which is the main reason I am selling.
- No clunk when shifting to reverse, no whine from transfer case, no popping/clicking from front hubs
- Front/rear brakes & fluid replaced at 193K, Redline gear oil in diffs.
- BFG 32x11.5 KO's on stock rims, lots of tread (installed at 193K with other stuff), drives straight
- Front/rear 2" receivers
Engine:
- Oil changed regularly with Castrol GTX and NAPA filters
- Needs valve adjustment, otherwise runs smoothly and is hitting on all cylinders though may need a set of plugs (no PO records on plugs).
- Water pump recently replaced, along with all V-belts and hoses except for rear heater hoses. I do have all rear heater hoses, just ran out of time to put them on. Toyota Red coolant. (PO had replaced front hoses 7/2003 and they were in pretty good shape so I saved them for trail repairs.) I still have a small leak around lower (short) rad hose, so put about a pint of coolant in the reservoir on weeks it is being driven, otherwise none. (Hose clamp needs to be re-tightened.)
- Rebuilt starter contacts this past summer when it would not engage reliably.
Interior:
- Nearly flawless except for sag and wear on outside of driver's seat (like 90% of lifted cruisers), see pics
- Fuse cover was destroyed by my knee when getting in one time. Busted into about 3 pieces.
- Dashmat on dash by PO to protect from AZ sun... No cracks or fading in dash.
- Rear windows are a little slow up/down. I suspect contacts in driver's door need R&R.
- Never smoked in, headliner is nearly flawless.
- All accessories work, including cruise control (rarely used anyway).
- Shifter bushings in shifter replaced by PO, shifter tight.
- Viper alarm (with motion sensor, works really well), 2 remotes
- Antenna works, connected to Scion AM/FM/CD(MP3) HU, stock speakers
