No this does not belong in chat ;)

I was in the mood for a relaxing, inexpensive project and had some extra wood laying around. After having seen 2badfj's roll over it got me thinking that I need something to put all my stuff in, so that my stuff does not go all over the place in the unfortunate event that should happen to me. I, like many of you, carry a lot of "just in case" stuff in my rig all the time. I also have my kids with me almost all the time as well. I would sure hate to have them get hit in the head with any of that stuff if we rolled. That would make me very sad :frown:

So with that in mind, I built a box! Check it out!

Not yet, but it will be just as soon as I can get to a welder. I want to weld two nuts to the underside of the body (outside vehicle). One bolt thru the floor of either side of the box to the nuts that are welded to the body. That way It is in good and tight, but I can still remove it when I need to.

looks good . did you lay it out or just build it .
what are the dimensions

Layed it out first. it is 41" wide (outside), floor is 15" deep, 14" tall. After the slope up the top panel is only about 9.5". but it is a perfect fit for my stuff.

Hind site being what it is I should have added this to the $50 or less thread. Only cost me like $40 for all of it.

I can not wait to get the nuts welded on so I can bolt it down. That is going to be killer! :grinpimp:

Looks good. Nice and organized, stuff no fly around. I can't wait to get going on a drawer/sleeping platform system I have been planning.

now all you need to do is cut some 15" diameter holes and drop some subwoofers in there with a 5,000 watt amp!

NICE BOX!!!
I used to be in that line of work, and when I was all done tonight I looked at it and thougt that very same thing. But that would not last too long in this rig. I have every thing electronic off the floor after having been in a river or two for too long. The carpet had to pulled and hung in the sun for a few days so as to not get that nasty mold smell. I figure a nice stereo would just get killed in there. Nice idea though.

ha, used to be an audio head as well. i remember back in high school some kid wanted me to build him a box for his '80 caddy fleetwood. 15" kickers, that was a huge box.

the PO of my 60 had two 10" mtx's in a box. that was gone the 2nd day after i bought the truck. miss the tunes but yer right, better off without!

I dont knwo if you ever use your 60 for camping but bolts through the floor would be a pain to remove. Could strap it down to some hold downs inside the truck. I knwo when I og out I usually spend at least 1 night so I would have to move that around to have a place to sleep.

Lets not even get into the car audio..just say I cant hear as well as I should at 27

2 things to say about that.

1. Two bolts will come out with a socket wrench in seconds. Maybe a minute at the most.

2. I don't sleep in my rig unless I get stranded and there is not a nice place to set up a tent. And if I had to, I would just undo the 2 bolts and put it on the ground. If I was not clear about where the nuts would be welded, then let me clarify. If you were laying under the rear of the vehicle looking up you would see them. That way the inside would stay nice and smooth....for sleeping if needed.

That looks really nice and neat. I like the angle at the back to utilize all possible space between box and seat. I dig it. Thanks for sharing. I have some material that I'm wanting to do something similar with, but have had a hard time deciding how I want to do it.

Great Job  I just bought my second HD rubbermaid container box after the last one split from all the gear

I have some wood in my cruiser too! This has inspired me to make a thread...
