Cool camper Douglas.
Now just drive around the world, pick up a few hot nurses and then write a book about it. Oh yeah and break a few trailer axles.

What was the issue with keeping the rails at 12.5 above the bed. I am invisioning the RTT to be mounted so that a 6' person could stand underneath the extended tent.

Given the Walldog design above do you guys think the angle iron down the entire outside is needed. I really dont' want to add the wieght as my hoops are already 2" DOM. I will have spreaders at the top of the hoops as well as middle hoop that stops as the spreader.
Kevin
That works for me but I think mine will all be welded together vs two seperate pieces.
Good work Walldog.
You gonna due that fancy brake press work on the top triangle?
Kevin
Thats pretty close. However instead of welding in the corner gusset I was going to leave this area open. My trailer is already line-x'd so I don't want to weld in this area.
Instead I was going to add legs to the bottom of the top triangle plate that would go down into the tub on the...
I have decided to mount the hoops on top of the rail in each corner.
I will fab up a triangle piece of 1/4" plate for each corner that will serve as a mounting plate to which the hoop leg will be welded. Another piece of plate will be welded perpendicular to the bottom of the triangle as a...
How should I mount my my trailer cage:
1. weld each to 2" angle iron feet which then sits on the top rail
2. weld to 2" angle iron the run the entire length to which the far end hoop is welded to as well. This is a heavy option.
3. weld each hoop end to plates that then mount inside...
You best have some weight in the front of the trailer or its going to pull kinda squirly with 160#'s loaded under the rear. Don't ask me how I know.
I would try to get these mounted in front of the axle if at all possible.

Lock n' roll is correct. www.locknroll.com
You need two pieces the hitch and the coupler.
What some have done is use the lock n' roll coupler part number 410 that will slide over a 2x2" square tube vs. the number 212 which slides into a 2" receiver.
You will weld/bolt a 2" receiver...
Bmac,
I would think by keeping the cut inside like your drawing you preserve the factory corner and the strength inherent with its design. I would still strengthen this area despite cutting inside by 2".
Do yours and then I'll cut mine
I like our design on the latches as well...
Barry,
Wouldn't you be cutting inside of the grab handles?
On my m101 the handles are welded to the outside of the trailer tub. If you cut straight down from the back you could keep the handles.
Maybe I'm missing something.

The hoops 2badfjs is fabing for me will 28" from the top of the trailer. I arrived at this height when considering a few issues:
1. I wanted the deployed tent to be at least 6' off the ground so that I could have standing area underneath. I plan to use some side panels off of one of my...
